The**Legal Metrology Branch plays an important role in ensuring Australian consumers and industry can rely on trusted measurements for fair trade in goods and services. To ensure traders comply with the law and adopt correct measurement trading practices, we employ inspectors who check that measuring instruments (for example, weighing scales, fuel pumps and weighbridges) are accurate throughout Australia, pre-packaged articles contain the correct amount of produce, and that fuel sold in service stations complies with fuel quality standards.
We also support the outcomes of other government agencies, undertaking inspection and audit activities through memoranda of understanding.
**The opportunity**:
Reporting to a Region's Manager, Trade Measurement Services the EL1 Assistant Manager, Trade Measurement Services is accountable under broad direction to undertake very complex work that delivers quality outcomes from trade measurement services functions of NMI.
The position will be responsible for effectively managing a dynamic team, plan and coordinate the Region's operational plans in line with LMB's Business and National Compliance Plans and undertake high level trade measurement functions.
It is essential that anyone assigned the duties of Assistant Manager, Trade Measurement Services holds the relevant qualification namely Certificate IV in Government (Trade Measurement) and Certificate IV in Government (Investigations) as prescribed by the _National Measurement Act 1960_ and any regulations made under that Act, for appointment as a trade measurement inspector.

- In-depth knowledge of and compliance with legislative, financial and administrative frameworks, government decision-making processes and department guidelines and regulations, including but not limited to, complex trade measurement issues, techniques, verification and trading practices.
- Demonstrated ability to manage tasks to contribute to the delivery of a diverse range of highly specialised technical services and regulatory activities in accordance with best practice, government policy and legislative requirements.
- Demonstrated communication and stakeholder management skills with an ability to initiate, establish and maintain strong relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, coupled with the ability to negotiate with clients and contractors to communicate the strategic vision of the agency.
