About Orthonova
Orthonova is a collaboration between
St John of God Health Care
and a group of Perth's leading orthopaedic surgeons and will deliver a superbly comfortable, individualised patient experience, underpinned by the highest standards of clinical quality and safety.
Opening in early 2027, the centre will set the standard for quality orthopaedic care, supported by strong surgeon engagement and world-leading technology. The vision is to build a unique centre which is the benchmark in expert, personalised orthopaedic care and education, and at the forefront of technology and sustainability in healthcare.
Once complete the centre will comprise of:
* Four contemporary operating theatres
* 38 overnight beds
* 20 chair day procedure and day of surgery lounge
* A dedicated entry and seamless support services integrated with St John of God Murdoch Hospital with the two hospitals connected via a linking bridge
The new contemporary facility will have a unique presence in the growing Murdoch precinct that will embody sustainability and technology while delivering an unmatched patient experience.
The role
As the Manager of Perioperative Services, you will play a crucial leadership and operational role in setting up, launching, and overseeing the perioperative services at Orthonova Orthopaedic Hospital. During the commissioning phase, this position will focus on service planning, ensuring readiness, building the workforce, designing processes, and integrating with shared services. Once the hospital opens, the role transitions to an operational capacity. As the Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of perioperative services, including the Operating Theatres, Recovery Unit (PACU), and Day Procedure Unit / Day of Surgery Admissions (The Lounge).
Your focus will be on delivering a premium and boutique hospital experience which is progressive and innovative in service delivery. You will strive for excellence across peri-operative services, upholding expert standards of nursing practice and personal centred care. Additionally, you will ensure effective resource management, foster team development whilst building and maintaining strong relationships with all stakeholders.
The Position
* Identify and recommend opportunities to promote and grow theatre activity.
* Evaluate theatre allocations to optimize efficiencies, revenue and to meet stakeholder needs.
* Implement business development initiatives using sound change management principles to engage teams, VMOs and other stakeholders.
* Ensure internal systems and processes within The Lounge, Operating Theatres and PACU support the efficient functioning of the hospital.
* Develop and maintain strong and effective working relationships with VMOs that contribute to the sustainability of the procedural area and high levels of patient satisfaction.
* Demonstrate both clinical and administrative leadership through effective communication, interpersonal skills, change management ability and the development of a high performance team that exhibits a culture of professional accountability and quality service.
* Manage the day-to-day operational activities and clinical standards of practice across areas of responsibility.
* Establish and maintains a collaborative multidisciplinary team approach to patient care.
* Implement workforce and industrial relations policies in consultation with HR to ensure good staff relationships exist and that disciplinary and grievances are handled in accordance with hospital policy.
* Actively participate in relevant Committees (internal, external or professional) and nominated working parties.
* Recognise the relationship between Joint Venture partners, Organisational strategic goals and individual service unit goals, and selects and supports staff to deliver the strategy effectively.
* Represent the organisation positively internally and externally.
* Responsible for the monitoring and evaluation of all performance indicators for areas of responsibility.
* Oversees and assists with the timely preparation and management of annual capital and operating budgets for the Department, in consultation with the General Manager and Finance Manager
* Manages departmental budget within established parameters and provides reports as required on budget results and variances, and makes recommendations for corrective action.
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate strong people skills and service delivery. You will have experience applying the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards and continuous quality improvement principles to deliver high-quality care.
You will bring an understanding of Western Australian private health funding frameworks, along with proven leadership capability to build and lead high-performing teams that meet industry benchmarks and patient expectations. Experience managing human, financial and physical resources in complex environments, supported by effective use of information systems, is essential.
You will possess current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse, perioperative experience, and demonstrate advanced post-registration nursing experience and the ability to demonstrate expert knowledge and advanced clinical skills.
