About the Opportunity:
Our busy in-house legal team is looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to work alongside our Chief Legal Officer. The Senior Legal Counsel will play a key role as trusted legal advisor to all areas of the Westgold business, including commercial & supply, finance, projects, operations, exploration, native title, human resources, company secretarial, and management. This role will be offered on a full-time permanent basis.
Key Responsibilities:
* Advise on legal and regulatory matters for the business, mitigating risk and protecting Westgold’s interests.
* Negotiate and draft a wide range of commercial contracts, including procurement (goods and services), project, mining services, toll treating, banking facility, and confidentiality agreements.
* Provide strategic legal advice on commercial, contractual, and corporations law matters.
* Collaborate with senior management and advise on high-impact projects and operations.
* Assist with corporate governance matters relating to Westgold’s dual ASX/TSX listing.
* Effectively manage and resolve legal disputes and claims within set timeframes and manage external legal counsel within budget.
Qualifications and Key Skills
* 5 – 12 years of post-admission experience (PAE), with a background in the mining, resources, construction, or engineering sector.
* Bachelor’s degree in law, admission to the Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory with a current legal practising certificate.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to understand and convey complex concepts to people with non-legal backgrounds.
* A collaborative approach and the ability to influence and educate across all levels of the business.
* Demonstrates critical thinking and sound judgment in resolving complex legal and business matters.
* Exceptional organisational skills and focus, including the capacity to prioritise tasks effectively and efficiently.
