Our client is a leading Japanese machinery manufacturing company with a long-established presence in the global market. Known for their high-quality industrial equipment and engineering excellence, they support customers across Australi. As part of their Australian operations, they are seeking a skilled Senior Accountant who is fluent in Japanese to join their finance team.
Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Country Manager (Australia), the Senior Accountant will play a key role in overseeing the finance function and supporting strong operational decision-making. The role will also maintain regular communication with Japan Headquarters, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting and alignment with global standards. You will manage a small accounting team and will be groomed into a future Finance Manager position.
* Lead day-to-day finance operations and supervise a small accounting team
* Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes
* Prepare financial and management reports for the Country Manager and Japan HQ
* Oversee AP/AR, general ledger accuracy, and bank reconciliations
* Handle fixed assets, depreciation schedules, and inventory accounting
* Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and variance analysis
* Ensure compliance with Australian accounting standards, tax rules, and audit requirements
* Liaise with external auditors, tax agents, and professional service providers
* Maintain effective communication with Japan HQ (in Japanese) regarding reporting and financial queries
* Participate in process improvements and system enhancements
* Contribute to strategic financial planning and operational efficiency initiatives
Your Profile
* Fluent Japanese (business/professional level) – essential
* Strong English communication skills
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field 5+ years of relevant accounting experience
* People leadership or team supervision experience preferred
* Experience in manufacturing, machinery, trading, or industrial sectors advantageous
* Strong understanding of Australian GAAP, taxation, and compliance
* Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems
* High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem‐solving ability
* Ambition to step into a Finance Manager role in the near future
