About GRDC
The Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) is a national organisation responsible for investing in world-class R&D to support the profitability and sustainability of Australian grain growers. As we modernise our systems and elevate our technology platforms, we're looking for an experienced IT Operations Manager to lead our enterprise-wide IT service delivery and infrastructure operations.
This is a critical leadership role focused on ensuring the reliability, availability, and continuous improvement of GRDC’s core technology services. You’ll be instrumental in enabling business continuity, uplifting service standards, and leading a small team through day-to-day operations and strategic transformation.
The Opportunity
As the IT Operations Manager, you’ll be responsible for the smooth delivery and evolution of GRDC’s IT services, supporting both infrastructure and end-user systems. You’ll work closely with vendors, partners, and internal teams to ensure resilient, high-quality, and user-centric service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
IT Operations & Infrastructure
Lead daily operations across enterprise IT infrastructure and systems, ensuring uptime, security, and performance.
Maintain the service catalogue and streamline interfaces to ensure technology solutions are accessible and effective.
Manage software lifecycles, licensing compliance, and operational budgets.
Service Management
Ensure service delivery is aligned to SLAs with minimal disruption and high user satisfaction.
Lead the IT service desk, ensuring timely resolution of incidents and requests.
Implement continuous service improvements and drive maturity in ITSM practices.
Incident, Problem & Change Management
Chair the Technical Change Committee and lead enterprise change control processes.
Oversee incident response, root cause analysis, and proactive problem resolution.
Build robust configuration and asset management practices to support lifecycle planning.
ITSM Processes & Tools
Lead the design, implementation, and optimisation of ITIL-aligned ITSM processes.
Promote integration of ITSM with key corporate functions like HR and Finance.
Ensure effective use of tools like ServiceNow for visibility and control.
Manage vendor relationships and service contracts to ensure value and performance.
Foster strong internal stakeholder relationships to support adoption and ensure feedback loops.
Report to senior leadership on system performance, service health, and improvement initiatives.
Leadership & Team Development
Lead, coach, and mentor a high-performing IT operations team.
Manage performance, development planning, and resourcing.
Build capability in ITSM, change, and operational excellence.
About You
You’re a proactive, strategic IT leader who thrives in a dynamic environment. You’re equally comfortable driving technical excellence as you are engaging with stakeholders to deliver value.
What You’ll Bring
Tertiary qualifications in IT, Computer Science or related field (required)
5+ years’ experience in IT service management or operations leadership
Strong track record implementing and improving ITIL-aligned processes
ITIL Foundation (required); ITIL Managing Professional or ServiceNow certifications (highly regarded)
Proven experience managing vendors, budgets, and service-level agreements
Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
Resilient, analytical, and solutions-focused mindset
Experience managing and developing high-performing teams
