Primary objective Provide administration support and contribute to the efficient and effective delivery of related services to the department and its clients on planning and development matters. Key duties and responsibilities 1. Administer and coordinate a range of administrative processes to support the planning team function and assist professional staff with the administrative tasks involved in processing of development applications and development permits under the Planning Act 1999. 2. Provide an accurate and informative enquiry service to clients in the department, development industry and broader community either by telephone or in person. 3. Assist professional staff including new employees on the use of the branch’s administrative processes and systems including the Integrated Land Information System (ILIS), Tower Records Information Management (TRIM), filing and archiving. 4. Assist professional staff with the processing of applications under the Planning Act 1999. 5. Undertake inspections of development sites for compliance with planning controls and conditions issued under approvals and report evidence. 6. Manage the administration of the Development Consent Authority for the Southern region, including preparing meeting agendas, liaising with the DCA members and assisting in the running of DCA meetings. Selection criteria Essential 1. Demonstrated experience in general administrative procedures, records management and maintenance of accurate registers and filing systems. 2. Proven ability in the use of office based computing applications, including word processing, spreadsheets and database information systems. 3. Demonstrated ability to communicate positively and effectively with a diverse range of people, including internal and external clients, both orally and in writing. 4. Well-developed organisational skills and proven ability to effectively manage workloads in order to meet tight deadlines, whilst working under pressure with minimal supervision. 5. Ability to work effectively as a team member in a work environment performing a diverse range of functions. 6. Demonstrated analytical skills, including the ability to read plans and interpret land information, legislation and regulations. 7. Current Northern Territory Drivers Licence or ability to obtain. Desirable 1. Well-developed political and cross cultural awareness skills. 2. Working knowledge of planning legislation and planning processes in the Northern Territory.
