Thompson Health Care
Deputy Director
Posted: 18 February
Offer description

At Thompson Health Care, we believe that 'residents don't live in our facilities - we work in their homes.\" This belief shapes how we lead, how we care, and how we support our people.

We are seeking a Deputy Director of Nursing (DDON) to join our management team at Avalon House Nursing Home as we prepare for an exciting new chapter. This role is ideal for an experienced DDON/Care Manager, or Clinical Care Coordinator (CCC) ready to take the next step into senior leadership.

With Avalon House currently operating at reduced occupancy during refurbishment, this role offers a unique and highly supported transition period, allowing the successful candidate to build confidence, capability and leadership skills before the home returns to full operations. This is a rare opportunity to transition into the role with full training, mentoring and corporate support before assuming full responsibilities.

What's on Offer:

* A genuine career progression opportunity with a respected, family-owned aged care provider

* Full training and structured support, including working alongside and being mentored by an experienced DDON at another Thompson Health Care facility prior to commencing at Avalon

* Strong clinical, education and corporate support teams

* The opportunity to help shape clinical standards, systems and team culture as the home grows

* Ongoing professional development opportunities supported by our Education Team

* A collaborative, values-driven workplace with a strong focus on quality care and people.

About the Role:

Working closely with the Director of Nursing, the DDON will support the clinical, operational and people management functions of the home.

This is a facility with the view of having 80 residents and the successful DDON will work within our management team along with our experienced Director of Nursing (DON).

You will be based at Avalon House, located at 14 John Street, Avalon Beach NSW 2107 and your hours of employment will be from 9:00-05:00pm.

Key responsibilities include:

* Assisting the DON with planning, organising, directing and managing clinical services

* Supporting the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care for residents

* Demonstrated experience in clinical education, coaching and staff development

* Providing leadership and guidance to nursing teams

* Assisting with clinical governance, accreditation preparation and continuous improvement activities

* Supporting workforce capability, performance, and engagement

* Contributing to budget management while maintaining resident care standards

This is a hands-on leadership role with the benefit of a structured and supported onboarding period.

About YOU:

We are looking for someone with the right attitude, leadership potential and commitment to quality care.

You will have:

* Current registration and license to practice as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA

* Experience in aged care in a leadership or senior clinical role (desirable)

* Candidates new to aged care leadership are welcome

* Demonstrated leadership capability (DDON experience highly regarded but not essential)

* Strong communication, organisation and people-management skills

* Demonstrated experience in clinical education, coaching and staff development

* A collaborative, calm and solutions-focused approach

* A genuine desire to grow, learn and progress into senior leadership

* Able to provide direction and motivate a multi-disciplinary team with a passion to deliver exceptional care and service to the elderly.

* Ability to ensure that all clinical staff are compliant with code of ethics and legal requirements.
