About the role

The Executive Branch Manager, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health and Wellbeing, is a senior leadership role within Canberra Health Services, responsible for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Hub and for driving strategic priorities that strengthen cultural safety, service delivery and health outcomes for First Nations consumers. As part of the CHS Executive, the role works closely with teams in CHS, other ACT Public Service Directorates, community organisations and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, requiring strong cultural capability, resilience, and the ability to build effective relationships across diverse stakeholders.

With a focus on improving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and wellbeing, the position leads cultural transformation initiatives, drives strategic priorities, and provides high‑level advice to strengthen cultural safety and service delivery across CHS. The role also represents CHS within local and national First Nations health networks, builds strong relationships with community and Elders, and influences system‑wide reform to uplift cultural capability across the organisation.

About you

You are an experienced senior leader with a strong record of achievement in complex environments, preferably within a government and/or clinical healthcare professional arena. You bring deep capability in driving cultural reform, advancing inclusion, and strengthening cultural safety, underpinned by a strong understanding of the historical and contemporary issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the cultural protocols that guide respectful engagement.

You excel at collaboration, stakeholder engagement and balancing immediate priorities with long‑term goals. You apply innovative, solutions‑focused approaches to workforce development, attraction and retention, and have experience leading transformational change, workforce reform or inclusivity initiatives. Your leadership reflects contemporary communication and change‑management practices, with a clear focus on measurable outcomes and culturally safe, inclusive workplaces.

Selection Criteria

* Exemplifies citizen, community and service focus - Demonstrated capacity to build and maintain effective relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, Elders, community‑controlled organisations, government agencies and senior executives.
* Fosters collaboration - Senior people leadership and workforce development capability
* Achieves results with Integrity – Delivered outcomes in complex or high-pressure environments while maintaining sound governance, transparency, and respectful stakeholder engagement

Remuneration: The position attracts a remuneration package ranging from $238,533 - $245,876 depending on current superannuation arrangements of the successful applicant. This includes a cash component of $209,807.

Contract: The successful applicant will be engaged under a performance-based long-term contract for a period of up to five years. Prospective applicants should be aware that long-term engagements are tabled in the ACT Legislative Assembly.
