Your Opportunity

As the Business Development Officer with TAFE Queensland you will:

* Initiate and implement business strategies to enhance performance and growth, increasing the East Coast region's market share and revenue.
* Coordinate and market a range of commercial training programs to promote the East Coast region as a quality provider in education, training and consultancy services.
* Work closely with managers and training delivery teams to identify and develop market opportunities for revenue, contributing to sales strategies that qualify and convert leads into commercial business.

This position reports to the Manager, Marketing and Sales.

This is a Permanent Full‑Time opportunity.

The position can be based at any campus within the TAFE Queensland East Coast region; you may also be required to perform work at other campuses.


Key Responsibilities

* Contribute to transformation and cultural change by promoting and modelling the values of Commerciality, Teamwork, Innovation, and Accountability.
* Collaborate on the development of sales plans for education products to maximise market penetration and achieve sales targets; work with marketing to develop campaign schedules that support sales plans.
* Research client needs and industry trends through face‑to‑face appointments and other strategies, and actively pursue new commercial opportunities to increase sales.
* Research education and training trends, monitor competitor products, services, pricing and promotional techniques, and implement strategies to sustain a competitive edge.
* Identify, negotiate and secure new business opportunities for education products on a local, state and national scale to meet revenue targets.
* Build rapport with clients, develop and maintain strong business relationships, deliver high‑level customer service and encourage continued business growth.
* Conduct Training Needs Analysis and work with portfolio staff to formulate proposals, tenders, project plans and quotations, ensuring compliance with legislation and policy requirements.
* Develop business cases, proposals, tender responses and reporting documents for competitive opportunities; liaise with legal/compliance officers to develop contracts and negotiate terms.
* Understand contractual terms and manage ongoing obligations to ensure financial performance, risk management and renewal.
* Maintain understanding of the commercial aspects of TAFE, including financial and business performance and external impacts.
* Actively engage with industry, business and community to develop new commercial business and act as a reference point for clients and other industries.


How You Will Be Assessed

* Demonstrated ability in research, development and presentation of proposals, tenders and financial quotations in an educational environment to commercial clients, using a persuasive manner.
* Experience in achieving sales targets, including identifying, negotiating and finalising commercial sales opportunities and managing a client base that leads to increased revenue and positive relationships.
* High level analytical, organisational and problem‑solving skills, including synthesising and developing innovative improvement strategies.
* Effective interpersonal skills, including liaising, networking and negotiating to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with key stakeholders.
* Displays flexibility, responsiveness and initiative to thrive within a dynamic, challenging and changing environment.


Mandatory Qualifications/Requirements

There are no mandatory requirements for this role.


Highly Desirable Requirements

* A minimum of five years in a sales or business development role.
* Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
* Degree in Business, Commerce/Finance, Marketing or related field.
