This full-time position offers the opportunity to lead projects from a design/project management perspective, from early project scoping to detailed design and tendering.
Our project range is diverse but predominately focused on large-scale industrial and agricultural projects, where operational efficiency, waste management and environmental impact are paramount.
The opportunity
In this varied role you will:
* Lead Projects – Be a design leader translating our clients’ ideas and operational requirements and developing an integrated design in collaboration with a full consultant team.
* Become a Trusted Advisor - In a direct client facing role, you will develop relationships with RMA’s clients.
* Be Supported - As a multidisciplinary firm, RMA has a wealth of technical specialists you can collaborate with and brainstorm to bring the project together.
* Be Part of a Team - Be actively involved in RMA’s inclusive, high performance and enjoyable culture, whilst also having opportunities to explore our leadership pathways. This role will involve ad hoc travel to our other offices.
About you
To succeed in this role, you will have:
Hard skills
- Project/Design management understanding and experience including:
* Ability to understand client drivers and project descriptions with the expertise to turn it into a defined project brief and plan, including project scope, objectives, and deliverables, while ensuring alignment with business goals.
* Manage and prepare budgets, timelines, project programs, and stakeholder expectations; to align with project goals, regulations, standards and other compliance areas.
* Coordinate and collaborate with consultants, suppliers, and subcontractors; to oversee and coordinate design documentation and approvals, to align with project objectives.
* Identification, mitigation and management of risks – client, project, RMA.
* Provide direction for design solutions to provide creativity, operational and cost efficiency, and innovation.
* Strong commercial understanding and management.
* Support project planning, sequencing and delivery strategy through facilitation of value management and cost planning workshops.
* Support sustainability targets across GreenStar, NABERS ratings (preferable).
- Technical Understanding:
* Strong understanding in the critical aspects of building design and engineering principles.
* Knowledge in town planning and approval processes for state and local government, service providers and certifiers.
* Sketch and interrogation proficiency/understanding in design software (AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe Suite).
* Review documentation for buildability, compliance (BCA/NCC), and design risks.
- Construction Experience (desirable):
* Understanding of contracts, procurement, tendering.
* Attend site visits to verify alignment between build and intent.
* Assist in defect reviews and post-construction design validation.
Soft Skills
* Leading - strong leadership and team coordination abilities. Strong collaboration with all members of the team and stakeholders.
* Proactive – able to use intuition, confidence to work with minimum guidance and use research to solve problems, then seeking the right technical specialist input to finalise the solution.
* Critical thinker - ability to create clarity and direction from project constraints.
* Relationship management - strong communication, emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills to liaise with team and clients and deal with collaboration, facilitation, negotiation and conflicts.
* Organised – manages time and information - Able to manage multiple design projects simultaneously.
Credentials:
1. Tertiary Bachelors Qualification in a relevant discipline – Project and/or Construction Management / Architecture / Engineering.
2. A minimum of 5 years’ post graduate experience in design management (ideally 7+ years).
3. Open unrestricted Driver’s Licence.
4. General Construction Induction Card (White Card).
