The Urban Forest Management Team is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Arborist Leading Hand to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of arborists, tree workers, and contractors in maintaining and managing Canberra's urban forest.
Key Responsibilities:
* Planting, watering, and follow-up maintenance of newly planted trees
* Maintenance of established trees
* Removal of dead and dying trees
* Administration of the Urban Forest Act 2023
* Assessment of tree-related claims
* Provision of technical advice on tree-related matters
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in horticulture or arboriculture, with experience in fall tree management, elevated work platform operation, and traffic control planning. They will also possess excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Requirements:
* Certificate III in Horticulture or Arboriculture
* Fall trees manually - intermediate (Chainsaw certificate)
* Operate a boom-type elevated work platform - 11m or more (EWP ticket)
* Authority to implement traffic control plans & traffic controller training
* Workplace Health and Safety Induction (White Card)
* Asbestos awareness card
* Ability to undertake the physical requirements of the task
* Prior registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011
