Protection & Control Technician


Canberra Based DNSP | Full-Time

POSITION OVERVIEW

Our client, a leading Canberra-based Distribution Network Service Provider (DNSP), is seeking a skilled Protection & Control Technician to support the construction, maintenance, testing, and commissioning of protection and SCADA control systems across their electricity network.

In this role, you will contribute to a wide range of electrical field activities and maintain core competencies across both protection and SCADA systems. While you may specialise in one area, ongoing professional development is encouraged to build and sustain the capability required for first-line on?call duties.

You will play an important role in ensuring high standards of safety, environmental compliance, and quality management across all work activities. This includes participating in job risk assessments, incident reporting, and adhering to all relevant safe work procedures and regulatory requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

* Lead and promote site safety through proactive risk identification and application of the Hierarchy of Controls
* Communicate effectively with internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure safe work practices
* Act as Person in Charge (PIC) on worksites where required
* Conduct safety conversations and ensure the team is safe to start work each day
* Ensure full compliance with safety rules, manuals, policies, procedures, and safe work method statements
* Mentor team members in safety leadership, risk management, documentation, and incident reporting
* Participate in the development and review of SWMS, JRAs, procedures, standards, and technical investigations
* Execute construction, maintenance, testing, and commissioning activities to required technical standards
* Deliver work efficiently, safely, and with minimal customer impact
* Maintain and update knowledge of industry best practices in protection and SCADA maintenance
* Perform additional duties consistent with skills, training, and competency level

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE &



EXPERIENCE

* Certificate III Systems Electrician (minimum)
* High Risk Work Licence – EWP
* OH&S General Induction Card
* ACT motor vehicle licence (or equivalent)
* Construction Occupation Licence — Unrestricted Electrician
* Strong understanding of electricity distribution network infrastructure, protection systems, and field operations
* Proven experience in construction and/or maintenance of electrical network assets

* Ability to obtain and maintain an AusCheck clearance
