Operation Flinders is looking for an enthusiastic and organised part-time (.8 FTE) Program Co-ordinator to lead the delivery of our Step Out program. This role is all about preparing a team of 13- to 17-year-old young people for our flagship 8-day walk on Yankaninna Station in the northern Flinders Ranges.
Reporting to the Head of Programs, you'll be responsible for co-ordinating and running all lead-in and follow-up activities that are offered to potential and accepted Step Out participants.
About the Step Out program
The Step Out program is an adventure therapy program that allows young people to access Operation Flinders' core program in the northern Flinders Ranges. The core program of Operation Flinders involves a 100 km trek over eight days, at our Yankaninna Station. This is a challenging week, both physically and mentally, and places young people out of their comfort zones. The program builds optimism, belonging, hope and social and emotional wellbeing through a focus on connection, resilience and purpose.
What You'll Be Doing
* Bring adventure to life – plan and deliver unforgettable activities like camps, and day activities to prepare young people for the pinnacle 8-day walk in the Flinders Ranges
* Keep the connection alive – coordinate comms that inspire and engage participants with timely invitations, resources, and updates
* Measure success– track outcomes, celebrate wins, and help shape the future of the program through continuous improvement
What You'll need to succeed
* A qualification (or experience) in Outdoor Leadership, Youth Work, Social Work, Psychology, Community Services, Education, or a related field
* Endorsement from at least one peak body or willingness to obtain e.g., SAREA, Paddle Australia, Bushwalking Leadership SA; or VET qualifications in outdoor disciplines e.g. Climb & Abseil, Flatwater Kayaking, Off-track navigation, Mountain-Biking
* Strong organisational and communication skills
* Confidence engaging young people from diverse/challenging backgrounds with empathy and clear boundaries
* Ability to balance admin with hands-on program delivery
* A collaborative mindset that inspires and support volunteers
* Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends to deliver program activities

The successful candidate will need to undertake a psychometric assessment and provide a valid police check and a Working with Children Check.
The Program Coordinator is not required to walk on the 8-day core program; however, opportunities may be available should they wish to volunteer.
Salary range for this role is $70,472 - $75,830 per annum (.8 FTE) depending on qualifications, skills and experience.
