Role Overview

This is a three-month immersive engineering position in Canberra, leading to a permanent role focused on innovation and national security.


Key Responsibilities:

* Contribute to a cohort-based program addressing real engineering challenges for government partners in defence, intelligence, and resilience sectors.
* Work on priority projects, contributing to systems engineering efforts in architecture design, mission assurance, digital engineering, and technology integration.
* Apply model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and related approaches to design and evaluate systems supporting defence, intelligence, and whole-of-government security initiatives.
* Support sponsor engagement activities, collaborating with technical teams, program managers, and operational users to ensure alignment with mission objectives and stakeholder needs.
* Build systems engineering artifacts such as architecture models, interface definitions, requirements traceability matrices, risk assessments, and decision analysis products.
* Gain practical exposure to systems engineering tools and frameworks, including SysML, MagicDraw/Cameo, and digital engineering environments.
* Learn how national security priorities drive capability development and technical delivery across Defence and Intelligence agencies.
* Collaborate with international teams, deepening understanding of allied engineering approaches and the MITRE ecosystem.
* Receive structured mentorship from senior engineers.
* Participate in a two-week immersion at an international headquarters, gaining insight into global impact and engineering culture.
* Transition into a permanent systems engineering role upon program completion.


Requirements

Hold a Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

Have early to mid-career experience, including recent graduates with strong academic foundations or those with several years of relevant professional experience.

Possess working knowledge of systems engineering concepts, including requirements analysis, architecture development, lifecycle planning, and system validation.

Have exposure to or familiarity with MBSE tools and techniques.

Demonstrate strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

Exhibit effective communication skills and ability to collaborate in multi-disciplinary teams.

Be eligible to obtain and maintain a government clearance.

Be willing to travel domestically and internationally, including for the two-week immersion.

Be able to work a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site.
