Position

SLS Federal Services Division is seeking an experienced Project Engineer who can also serve as a Deputy Project Manager within a fast growing and dynamic Federal Services Division. Ideal candidate has strong design-build civil infrastructure project experience on projects valued over $100M. The Deputy PM/Project Engineer will support the Project Manager through all aspects of the full project lifecycle from initial capture, thru design/engineering, construction execution, and final closeout activities. Additionally, the Deputy PM/Project Engineer will have the primary responsibility of managing the project's design/engineering efforts.

The Federal Services Division has a growing backlog of civil infrastructure projects across the Southwestern United States, and is aggressively pursuing additional project opportunities with federal clients such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC), and U.S. Department of State (DOS).

Responsibilities


• Serve as Deputy Project Manager/Project Engineer reporting directly to the Project Manager, unless otherwise directed by the Division President.


• Support the Project Manager in developing and managing a healthy client relationship.


• Act in the role of Project Manager during his/her absence or during a vacancy in that position.


• Provide direct oversight of the Designer of Record's efforts and serve as the local Project Engineer, coordinating with the DOR for all day to day construction engineering support.


• Manage efforts of direct report functions to include, but not limited to, Geotechnical Engineer Consultant, Project Scheduler, Contracts & Administrative Support, and any other functions as determined by Project Manager.


• Directly support the PM on all aspects of successful project execution to include Design, Construction, Finance, Scheduling, Quality, Health, Safety, Security and Environmental.


• Remain actively engaged and aware of the status of construction efforts by developing a positive and healthy working relationship with the Project Superintendent.


• Provide support and direction as necessary to the Project SSHO and CQC Manager.


• Support the Project Manager in managing the project budget to maximize profit and loss.


• Support the Project Manager as necessary in reviewing/approving accounts payables and generating account receivable invoices.


• Provide direct support to the Project Manager in negotiating and executing all contracts and subcontracts and purchase orders to ensure project execution in accordance with contractual scope and adherence to budget.


• Ensure Project Schedule remains up to date, accurate, and a central focus of the team.

Qualifications


• B.S. Degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management


• Minimum 5+ yrs experience on heavy civil projects ~$50M+


• Experience with DOD/USACE/NAVFAC strongly preferred


• Experience on a large team of diverse professionals preferred


• U.S. Citizenship; valid driver's license; successfully pass background/security checks


• Ability to speak, read and write fluent English


• Strong proficiency with MS Office required, proficiency in Primavera P6 a plus
