Phillip Riley is pleased to be working with one of our clients in the search for a Solar and BESS Engineering Manager. Reporting to the Chief Technical Officer, this exciting opportunity manages and undertakes all technical aspects of the utility scale solar farms and energy storage projects from development to pre-contracts through to construction. This role will cover concept and detailed design phases, tender process for full EPC or multi-contract delivery models.

**Responsibilities**
- Manage a team of engineers and technical professionals, providing guidance, support, and mentorship
- Assist with technical inputs for new solar farm opportunities
- Conduct technical feasibilities (resource assessment, energy yield assessment, geotechnical and hydrology investigations, LiDAR and feature surveys, and constructability etc) on new solar farm projects and potential acquisition targets
- Lead and provide support with concept design of solar farms taking into account site constraints, existing services, planning and environmental, grid connection and geotechnical, etc.
- Develop solar PV and electrical high-level designs including DC system, AC system (HV, MV, LV), electrical protection, earthing, SCADA, security, communication etc. ensuring compliance with relevant Australian Standards, regulations and codes
- Develop single line diagrams, cable schedules, layout drawings for the solar farms and BESS projects
- Perform calculations for equipment sizing, cable losses, voltage drops, auxiliary losses, string sizing etc
- Conduct site visits and inspections
- Build relationships with EPCs, BoP contractors, suppliers, engineering consultants and technical advisors contractors, suppliers, engineering consultants and technical advisors
- Prepare consultant engagement RFPs and work with the procurement team during tender process to evaluate preferred consultants factoring in price, scope, experience and overall level of services proposed
- Work with technical consultants, stakeholders, and other third parties to confirm technical requirements of solar farm and BESS projects
- Develop technical specifications and prepares tender package for the construction and O&M of Solar Farm and BESS projects depending on full EPC wrap or multi-contract delivery models utlising BoP and Substation Contractors
- Direct, coordinate and provide information and documents to the suppliers of major equipment, EPC/BoP/Substation Contractors.
- Evaluate tenders and negotiate contracts, including review of technical submissions (electrical, civil and structural plans, specifications, datasheets, calculations, and studies)
- Coordinate EPC tendering process and communicate with EPCs to clarify scope of work, and technical clarifications
- Assist with and coordinate the technical due diligence (TDD) process and communicate with suppliers and contractors to clarify scope and TDD clarifications
- Provide inputs and assist the functional teams in achieving financial close and securing partners, funding, and off-take arrangements
- Assist with the grid connection process from preliminary enquiry through to full commercial operation and subsequent ongoing obligations
- Establishing benchmark costing for individual HV/MV substation, MV Switchroom, Capacitor Banks, Harmonic filters, Statcom, SVC etc by securing direct prices from the OEMs and civil/electrical/mechanical contractors

**Qualifications and Experience**
- Bachelor's degree in engineering. Masters in Renewable will be added advantage.
- Substantial experience in Solar and BESS is essential.
- Experience in working with an EPC Contractor and/or design consultant (preferred)
- Knowledge of Australian Standards and international reference standards applicable to Solar, BESS and associated equipment and systems shall be highly regarded.
- A working knowledge of Environmental and Health and Safety legislative requirements
- Knowledge of NER and experience in dealing with NSPs and AEMO
- Experience will PVsyst, AutoCAD, MS Projects, PV design software tools required.
