POSITION DETAILS

The Housing Older Women's Support Services (HOWSS) is specialised Housing and Support Hub for Older Women funded by the Department of Housing. The Footprints Community service offers a Brisbane-based Hub, regional spokes in Mackay and the Sunshine Coast, and a Queensland-wide online navigation and support service that is inclusive of all older women experiencing housing instability or homelessness.


The Community Education Facilitator will be responsible for delivering and evaluating educational programs and workshops aimed at older women who are experiencing housing instability or homelessness. This role involves engaging with the community to promote the service, facilitating group sessions, and working closely with stakeholders to ensure the programs meet the needs of the participants in the Sunshine Coast region. The position will work alongside the HOWSS team, and particularly the Community Engagement team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Development and Delivery:

* Work with the HOWSS Coordinator and Community Engagement Team to design and develop educational programs and workshops tailored to the needs of older women experiencing housing instability and / or homelessness.
* Provide group engagement sessions to the public and community providers with information, advice, guidance on housing availability, resolving tenancy issues, financial matters, sustaining tenancy, and other key matters related to housing stress, using an early intervention and prevention approach.
* Facilitate group sessions on topics such as: housing options, accessing housing, financial literacy, technology use, and social connections – tapping into local resources.
* Ensure that all educational materials are up-to-date and relevant.
* Work alongside women with lived experience in a peer volunteer position, in the delivery of engagement sessions

Community Engagement:

* Actively engage with the community to promote awareness of the HOWSS program and the support/services available.
* Establish and maintain relationships with community organisations, local businesses, and other stakeholders.
* Attend community events to represent the organisation and gather feedback.
* Link in with other key community providers to develop and deliver mutual and partnered engagement sessions to the community and other community providers, including tailored sessions to respond to the needs of First Nations women, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) women, the LGBTQIA+ community, and women with disabilities.
* Provide feedback to the Coordinator and Community Engagement Lead on any possible networking opportunities.

Participant Support:

* Provide a welcoming and supportive environment for all program participants.
* Offer individual support and referrals as needed.
* Monitor and evaluate participant progress and provide feedback.

Administration and Reporting:

* Maintain accurate records of program activities, attendance, and outcomes.
* Work with the Community Engagement Team to prepare regular reports on program effectiveness and community engagement efforts.
* Assist in the development of promotional materials and outreach strategies.
* Meet KPI's and provide case studies where required.
* Perform all administrative tasks in relation to the position.
* Maintain a safe work practice in accordance with Occupational Health & Safety legislation and Footprints policies.

Collaboration and Networking:

* Work collaboratively with the HOWSS Coordinator, the Community Engagement Lead and other team members to ensure cohesive service delivery.
* Participate in regular team meetings and contribute to strategic planning.
* Network with other service providers to stay informed of best practices and new developments in the field.
* Respond to information requests from the community or agencies, in accordance with Footprints policy, strategies and objectives.

General:

* Attend all required mandatory training and team meetings.
* Follow all organisation policies and procedures.
* Participate in training and attend supervision sessions.
* Maintain a safe and healthy workplace, ensuring adherence to Work Health and Safety policies and procedures.

Skills:

* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Strong organisational and time management abilities.
* Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite, preferably PowerPoint, and other relevant software.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Knowledge of issues affecting older women and a commitment to empowering this demographic.
* Familiarity with the local Sunshine Coast community resources and networks.
* Creativity in program design and problem-solving.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential

* Capacity to relate to clients from a perspective of having a lived experience of mental health challenges.
* Comprehensive understanding of the recovery process and ability to communicate a lived experience.
* Ability to establish relationships and maintain appropriate boundaries with co-workers, clients, carers, and families.
* Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, skills to work cooperatively with other staff as well as working independently.
* Deep understanding of personal and professional boundaries
* Able to manage own self-care needs.
* Good written and verbal communication skills, and computer literacy
* Current class C Drivers Licence
* National NDIS Workers Screening check or current Yellow Card.

Desirable

* Relevant tertiary study in mental health, social work, psychology or a related field
* Skills in counselling and motivational interviewing
* Current First Aid Certificate
* Experience in delivering psycho-social educational groups such as SMART Recovery, DBT etc.
* Experience in Outreach community work
* Experience working with individuals with complex mental health support needs and individuals who are at risk of homelessness.
