We are seeking a Marine Geologist to provide expertise and advice in support of Australian government strategic priorities. This role involves leading the application of advanced geoscientific mapping methods to enhance our understanding of Australia's marine environment.
In this role you will:
* Lead the delivery of marine geoscience projects, including RAPi, ensuring outputs are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with strategic priorities.
* Design and produce geoscientific data products to support assessments for offshore energy, including renewable energy, hydrogen, and carbon capture and storage.
* Apply advanced analytical techniques to map, characterise, and interpret marine geology, contributing to national resource assessments and foundational datasets.
* Provide accurate, objective, and timely scientific advice to government, senior management, and other scientific agencies on marine geoscience issues.
* Represent Geoscience Australia and Australian Government interests at national and international forums, promoting the agency’s scientific capabilities and strategic goals.
* Manage engagement with internal and external collaborators, stakeholders, and contractors to ensure effective communication and delivery of project outputs.
* Support the Director – Marine and Coastal Geoscience in setting the strategic direction of the section and undertake leadership duties as required.
To be successful in the role you will:
* Provide high level scientific leadership and advice in marine geology, supporting the strategic direction of the Marine and Coastal Geoscience Section and the Oceans, Reefs Coasts and Antarctic Branch.
* Have a deep understanding of the strategic drivers behind interdisciplinary programs like Resourcing Australia’s Prosperity including the need for collaboration across various scientific disciplines and stakeholders to achieve national priorities.
* Have a passion for marine geoscience, and an understanding of the unique issues and opportunities facing the marine and coastal science community. This includes being aware of current trends, emerging technologies, and key environmental issues.
* Build and sustain relationships with a range of stakeholders including internal and external stakeholders, government and the science community.

* Qualifications and Experience: Background in marine geology or a related field.
* Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
* Leadership Abilities: Proven experience in managing teams and mentoring or supervising staff.
* Project Management: Strong skills in designing, managing, and overseeing fieldwork projects, such as marine surveys.
* Legislative Knowledge: Familiarity with, or the ability to quickly learn, relevant legislation related to Australia's marine jurisdiction (e.g., Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, Offshore Electricity Infrastructure Act 2021).
