As our WaterQuality Officer, you'll play a hands‐on role in protecting oneof Townsville's most important essentials - clean, safedrinking water for every household, school, business andcommunity space.
You'll be theperson our community counts on to make sure the water comingout of every tap meets the highest standards. From keeping aclose eye on our monitoring program, to coordinating samplingwith operators and our laboratory, to digging into the sciencebehind any unusual results. Your work helps prevent issuesbefore they affect the people who rely on us everyday.
In this role,you'll investigate water quality incidents, support transparentreporting to the Regulator and Council, and help driveimprovements, whether that's refining procedures, recommendingupgrades, or spotting trends that others might miss. You'llmanage important water information, guide contractors onperformance, and make sure our Drinking Water QualityManagement Plan stays active, up‐to‐date andeffective.
You'll alsoplay a key part in helping others understand how water qualityworks by supporting staff training and helping educate thecommunity on why safe drinking water is everyone's business. Qualifications and Experience
Our idealcandidate will have:
* Tertiary degreequalification in science, engineering or a related field withthe emphasis on the application of scientificprinciples.
* Demonstratedknowledge and experience in the interpretation and applicationof the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.
* Experience inthe conduct of water quality research.
* Formallytrained in the application of the Australian Drinking WaterGuidelines framework.
* CurrentDriver's licence.
* Demonstratedability to research and investigate water qualityissues.
* Substantialknowledge of the standard suite of water quality parameters andtheir impact on drinking water.
* High level ofcomputer skills particularly in relation to the manipulation ofdata.
* Knowledge oftypical water reporting parameters such as the NationalPerformance Indicators.
* Experience inthe investigation and reporting of water qualityincidents.
* Experience indrinking water sampling techniques.
* Experience inthe extraction and formatting of water quality data forregulatory reports.
* Experience inthe presentation, reporting and interpretation of waterperformance information.
