About the Position
In this newly-created role, we are seeking a commercially minded, people-first Head of Retail to oversee the performance, leadership and customer experience evolution of our national store network: currently two stores in Melbourne, one each in Sydney (Darlinghurst) and Brisbane (Fortitude Valley), and our non-profit PRISE Op Shop in West End, Brisbane.
Given SWOP's current growth trajectory, our retail footprint is rapidly expanding year-on-year, and you will be responsible for ensuring that brand new stores operate with strong teams, consistency, and commercial strength from launch.
Reporting to the General Manager, this is a highly visible position responsible for elevating customer service, strengthening accountability, building high-performing teams, and ensuring SWOP's stores and 60+ retail staff operate with energy and an unwavering commitment to excellence, while also reflecting our values of quality, integrity, connection, and inclusivity.
Please note that this role can be based either in Melbourne, VIC or Sydney, NSW.
Key Responsibilities
* 1. Customer Experience Stewardship – Champion a consistent, elevated and hospitality-driven customer experience across all stores.
* 2. Retail Leadership & Team Performance Management – Lead and develop high-performing retail leaders and teams across the business.
* 3. Commercial Performance & Retail Profitability – Drive strong commercial outcomes while maintaining the integrity of the SWOP culture, and elevated customer and employee experience.
* 4. Culture, Engagement & Team Experience – Cultivate an inclusive, accountable and high-performing retail culture through training and continuous improvement initiatives.
* 5. Visual Merchandising & Brand Standards – Ensure all stores consistently reflect the SWOP brand experience and aesthetic.
* 6. Operational Excellence – Partner with the Operations Manager to drive efficiencies across the retail network, creating and refining processes to improve the speed and quality of operations.
Ideal Candidate Qualities
This role is best suited to an ambitious, modern retail leader who thrives in dynamic, fast-paced and high-growth environments. The ideal candidate will bring to SWOP a strong track record of multi-site retail management at a national level, with experience at high-end brands and/or multi-brand fashion retailers strongly preferred. Other key attributes include the following:
* Leading and performance managing large teams (50+ staff) including a primarily Casual workforce.
* Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time.
* Strong financial acumen, and mastery of retail KPIs and data reporting.
* Experience overseeing new store launches.
