At Karara, Bis operates a
mobile Tailings Storage Facility (TSF)
— a first-of-its-kind system in Australia. This mobile TSF plays a key role in sustainable mining, managing approximately
9 million tonnes per annum (mtpa)
of dry stack tailings. The system operates

and is designed to safely and efficiently transport tailings material at an average rate of
2,000 tonnes per hour

About The Role
As a
Mechanical Maintainer
, you'll play a critical role in supporting Bis' operations at the
Karara Tailings Storage Facility (TSF)
— home to our
mobile, extendable conveyor system
, a cutting-edge setup designed to optimise performance, improve reliability, and reduce environmental impact.
You'll be part of a skilled site team of approximately
40 professionals
, working closely with operators, electrical trades, planners, and leadership to keep plant and equipment always operating safely and efficiently.
What You'll Be Doing
Reporting to the
Fixed Plant Maintenance Lead
, your responsibilities will include:
* Conducting scheduled and breakdown mechanical maintenance across fixed and mobile plant equipment
* Performing pre-start checks, inspections, and defect identification in line with maintenance schedules
* Supporting planned shutdowns and maintenance activities
* Communicating plant issues and maintenance requirements to site leadership
* Completing maintenance documentation and records accurately and on time
* Ensuring all work complies with WHSE, MSIA, and client safety standards
* Using two-way radios professionally in line with Karara site protocols
* Assisting with general plant upkeep, housekeeping, and continuous improvement initiatives
What You'll Bring
* Certificate III in Mechanical Trade (Fixed Plant / Diesel Fitter / Diesel Mechanic) or equivalent.
* Current Australian Driver's Licence

Post-trade mechanical maintenance experience Fixed plant, hydraulics, and conveyor system exposure Welding experience Strong safety awareness and commitment to

* First Aid certification
* Previous team leadership experience
