The Building Compliance team is responsible for proactive compliance, inspections and audits of Class 1 buildings. The team also investigates complaints and referrals relating to non-compliant building work, issues rectification orders under various Acts (pre or post occupation). Responsibilities include: Leading, managing and undertaking strategic, targeted and risk-based audit programs, including comprehensive desktop reviews and on-site inspection, to detect and deter non-compliance and increase quality and standards within the NSW building industry, Leading, manage complaints lodged against building contractor for defective work, including comprehensive desktop reviews and on-site inspection, to detect major defects and non-compliance to increase quality and standards within the NSW building industry and uplift consumer confidence Managing high profile and contentious audits, investigations, complaints, reviews and/or policy issues relevant to the business area and provide strategic advice/recommendations to senior officers to inform decision making Developing, refining and maintaining a compliance-based risk assessment framework and undertake regular analysis of relevant datasets and other sector trends to minimise risk and maximise safety in the NSW home building industry, Determining team priorities and allocating resources to ensure that compliance activities are carried out in an efficient and timely manner in accordance with the requirements of the organisation to support optimal service delivery, Providing high level specialised building expertise and expert advice, reports and recommendations to inform decision making and support the organisation to meet its objectives, Communicating effectively and providing timely expert advice and support to key internal and external stakeholders to achieve improved industry outcomes, Leading and driving team management, work planning, coaching and professional development activities to align resources to deliver priorities and a positive customer and employee experience, Effectively maintaining statistical data, records and outcomes and provide timely and accurate reporting of activities undertaken, Providing advice to senior management, regarding significant issues, industry developments, critical milestones, and identification of options that contribute to the Department's regulatory plans, Developing and maintaining effective and collegiate relationships with both internal and external stakeholders including key industry bodies, Maintaining awareness of relevant issues, obligations, insights, challenges, industry trends and practices and opportunities to identify, evaluate, recommend and deliver innovative solutions that optimise outcomes and contribute to a best practice function in line with organisational and government priorities To be successful in this role you will have: Demonstrated expertise and knowledge of the Building Code of Australia and legislation, regulation, policies and practices, Demonstrated practical experience in one or more areas of building regulation. -Builder/Trade background -Clerk of works -Site Supervision -Technical dispute resolution If you’d like to know more about this role, please contact Donald van Keimpema at Donald.vanKeimpema@customerservice.nsw.gov.au or 0438 507 052.
