Cruise Whitsundays, based in Airlie Beach, is the largest marine-based tour and transport provider in the Whitsundays. The company operates 10 modern, well-equipped, air-conditioned vessels, a world-class sailing catamaran, and Australia's first underwater accommodation, Reefsuites, and a Reefsleep glamping experience at the Reefworld pontoon.
Role Overview
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager Operations, the Shore Based Fabricator Welder/Shipwright assists in the maintenance of vessels, pontoon, vehicles and tenders.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform fabrication work in accordance with scheduled maintenance and rectification works including operation of welding equipment to assist with scheduled maintenance programs for all mechanical, steel/metal structures, sullage systems and safety equipment.
* Undertake general shipwright repairs to vessel fabric and structure.
* Proactive in the planning of works to maintain and enhance vessel internal/external fabric maintenance.
* Accurately maintain HELM and associated work orders/tasks through to job completion and sign off.
* Responsible for fault finding and additional repairs beyond the scheduled maintenance program.
* Adhere to SOPS, Marine Memos, operation procedures and WHS requirements.
* Ensure all qualifications are kept up to date and provided to HR.
* Remain adaptable and acceptable to change while working autonomously.
* Ensure sufficient stock of all items necessary to make your job run smoothly.
* Complete ad hoc maintenance tasks and repairs where appearance issues arise under the guidance of the Maintenance Manager.
About you
The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and be comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions. They should have proven ability in boat building, shipwright or marine finishing, aluminium fabrication, and welding, and take a proactive approach to identifying and remedying onboard issues. Clean, tidy, team-oriented, and organized are essential traits.
Requirements
* Experience within high-speed vessel presentation requirements.
* High level of marine knowledge and installation experience.
* Experience conducting risk assessments and implementing practical safety measures.
* Excellent time and priority management with strong organisational and written/verbal communication skills.
* Intermediate computer literacy, including tablets, and experience with maintenance management software and data entry.
* Eye for detail and pride in workmanship.
* Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
* Excellent communication and problem‐solving skills.
* Experience installing, operating, servicing, fault‐finding, repairing and maintaining plant equipment such as 12/24 V electrical systems, tanks, sewage systems and equipment fit‐out.
* Experience exercising good judgement in appraising difficult situations and making appropriate decisions about equipment condition and corrective action.
* Knowledge and commitment to maintenance planning techniques and philosophies, including continuous improvement.
* Reliable, self‐motivated and proactive.
* Strong personal presentation skills.
* Cross‐culture awareness and sensitivity to the needs of others.
* Strong work ethic with a commitment to complete any job well.
* Trade qualifications as a Welder / Boiler maker highly preferred.
* Extensive aluminium fabrication and welding experience, preferably within the boat building / marine industry.
* Proven ability to undertake general shipwright repair tasks.
* Open manual Drivers Licence.
* HLTAID011 Provide First Aid & Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.
* Working at heights.
* Forklift Licence (desirable).
* Working in confined spaces (desirable).
