Position Description – Community Programs and Events Officer -

Purpose
This position exists to provide support to the Lifelong Learning Coordinator and work in
collaboration with the Programs Team in the planning and delivery of programs and services
across the City of Marion. The Community Programs Officer will be responsible for planning
and delivering programs and events in one of the specialised areas of children's literacy,
digital literacy or adult learning but will have a requirement to work across program areas
from time to time. Assistance with provision of customer service duties and other library
duties as required.
Key Deliverables
Assist the Lifelong Learning Coordinator in the provision of library services to community
members. This may include:
* Assisting in the coordination and delivery of programs and events
* Developing and delivering a range of services and activities targeted at lifelong
learning
* Embedding digital literacies in programs and program delivery
* Maintaining statistical reports of all programs and service activities
* Reviewing, selecting, ordering and acquiring a range of library materials suited to
programs and services
* Liaising with organisations or individuals involved with delivering suitable and
appropriate programs
* Attending network meetings as required and participating in network initiatives that
promote lifelong learning
* Using the Regional Public Health Plan, City of Marion's 10 Year Plan, Marion Libraries
3 Year Plan, and the RAP and DAIP to plan and deliver programs
* Creating running sheets to ensure structured, intentional delivery of programs and
events
* Contribute to a team culture with a high-level customer experience focus, which
recognises that the provision of excellent customer service is the primary role for all
team members
* Undertake customer service duties and other library duties as required including:
o Assisting customers in the use of library services and facilities
o Maintain quality lending services including issuing and returning of loans,
shelving and tidying of material, holds system, customer queries and
membership

Essential criteria
* Experience in working in a customer experience environment and knowledge of
quality customer service principles
* Passionate and enthusiastic about working with people in relation to lifelong learning
* Experience in developing and delivering programs to adults and children
* Ability to effectively share information and encourage others to learn
* Excellent program delivery skills
* Versatility and flexibility to manage time and plan work according to demand within a
team environment and in the context of a rostered timetable
* Strong verbal and written communication skills
* Sound ICT skills
* Ability to work effectively and efficiently without direct supervision
* Experience in using technology to deliver a library service
* Resilience and the ability to remain calm and in control whilst under pressure
* Community minded and engaging
* Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Desirable criteria
* Knowledge of current literature, resources, and materials
* Knowledge and understanding of local government
* Experience in working in a public library
* Display and presentation skills

* Hold a current driver's license and have access to a vehicle as program delivery

Standard conditions
* Satisfactory completion of a National Police Clearance (will be arranged by the City of
Marion)
* Satisfactory completion of applicable Medical Assessment (will be arranged by the
City of Marion)
* Must be either an Australian resident or possess the legal right to work in Australia,
with the ability to provide documentation of a valid work visa
* Comply with existing Work, Health and Safety legislation and regulation obligations and
apply "Think Safe Live Well" philosophy
* Embrace ethical and moral behaviour and report any suspected instances of fraud
and/or corruption in accordance with Fraud and Corruption Management and the
Code of Conduct
* Adhere to the City of Marion Values
* The incumbent will perform other duties as required
Other conditions specific to the role
* The position will be required to work within a library roster, including evenings and
weekends, and may require the incumbent to work outside of normal working hours,
as required
* The position will be required to work across all library branches and external council
areas to provide literacy, digital literacy and learning programs to community
members and to facilitate outreach.
* This position may be required to work across any Council location and include work
within the scope of level 3 classification
* This is a prescribed position as defined by the City of Marion Safe Environments for
Children and Vulnerable Persons Policy. Therefore, incumbent must:
o Promote and maintain a child safe environment and take relevant actions in
accordance with council's Safe Environments for Children and Vulnerable
Persons Policy and with legislative requirements under the Children and Young
People (Safety) Act 2017 and the Child Safety (Prohibited Persons) Act 2016
o Satisfactorily complete a DHS Working with Children Check (to be renewed
every five years) and be willing to undertake Child Safe Training.
