Love the outdoors? Take pride in creating and maintaining landscapes that inspire? Join our Facilities Management team and help shape vibrant and safe university campuses that our community is proud to call home. You won’t just be mowing lawns — you’ll be shaping the first impression of the University. Your work will directly support student life, major events and everyday campus experiences, all while upholding strong standards in safety, sustainability and presentation.

Who you are

You’re a hands-on, experienced grounds professional who takes genuine pride in creating outdoor spaces that are safe, vibrant and impeccably presented. With solid experience in landscaping and grounds maintenance, you bring practical expertise, a strong safety mindset and the confidence to operate and maintain equipment with care. You’re organised and proactive – comfortable coordinating contractors, managing competing priorities and stepping up to lead smaller project when needed. Most importantly, you value teamwork and community and you’re motivated by seeing students, staff and visitors enjoy the environments you help create.

What you'll do

In this role, you’ll be at the heart of creating safe, vibrant and beautifully maintained outdoor spaces that shape the everyday experience of our campuses. Day to day, you’ll maintain gardens, lawns, pathways and infrastructure, operate and care for specialised equipment, coordinate contractors, and support landscaping and horticultural projects from planning through to delivery. You’ll also play a key role in preparing grounds for major University events — ensuring every space is presented at its best.

Within your first 6–12 months, you’ll build a strong understanding of campus operations, establish effective contractor relationships, and contribute to visible improvements in presentation, safety and sustainability across your allocated work area. You’ll have the opportunity to apply your knowledge to enhance projects, recommend process and equipment improvements, and step up to lead smaller initiatives and event preparations.

Your impact will be seen and experienced daily by students, staff and visitors. By maintaining high presentation standards and fostering vibrant, welcoming outdoor spaces, you help create environments that support learning, community connection and major University events – all while upholding a strong commitment to safety and our environment.

What will help you succeed

This role will suit someone who is genuinely motivated by outdoor garden care and maintenance and takes pride in maintaining attractive, safe and well-presented outdoor spaces. You enjoy hands-on work and gain satisfaction from seeing gardens and landscaped areas consistently maintained to a high standard. You will bring practical experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping or a related field, along with a strong commitment to workplace health and safety.

A few key essentials include:

* Qualification in landscaping or a related field (desirable but not essential)
* Demonstrate experience in general garden maintenance
* Experience in operating and maintaining groundskeeping equipment safely
* Current driver’s licence
* Strong understanding of workplace health and safety practices

Experience working in established or curated gardens — and experience maintaining or contributing to a Japanese Garden or similarly detailed landscape setting would be highly regarded. An eye for detail, an understanding of seasonal maintenance requirements and an appreciation for maintaining landscaped areas in line with their intended design will set you apart.

You will ideally also bring experience coordinating contractors or supporting landscaping projects, along with the confidence to identify hazards, undertake basic risk assessments, and maintain high standards of presentation and safety. Strong organisational skills, initiative, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team will position you for success in this role.
