Staff Specialist – Rehabilitation L15)

Be among the first 25 applicants. The Royal Hobart Hospital and Department of Health are seeking a qualified Staff Specialist – Rehabilitation to cover extended leave, commencing as soon as possible until 26 June 2026.


Overview

The role involves all aspects of medical care for rehabilitation patients/clients across acute inpatient, in‑reach, ambulatory and community settings. The specialist will also be engaged in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research and quality improvement activities.


Responsibilities

* Patient Care:
o Provide consultant services to inpatients, admit and manage patients under care.
o Accept referrals and undertake consultations and patient reviews.
o Participate in outpatient clinics in all aspects of rehabilitation medicine.
o Regular attendance at multidisciplinary clinic meetings.
o Participate in quality activity programs.
* Teaching:
o Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate specialist trainee teaching.
o Liaise with the University of Tasmania (UTAS) Department of Medicine for undergraduate and registrar teaching.
* Education and Research:
o Maintain an active interest in research.
o Active participation in ongoing education meetings and activities.
* Management:
o Report to the Head of Department (Rehabilitation).
o Liaise with the UTAS Department of Medicine on teaching and research matters.
* Performance and Development Review:
o Conducted annually with the Head of Department.
o Contribute to the organisation's Quality & Safety and Work Health & Safety processes, including development and implementation of safety systems and improvement initiatives.
* The incumbent may be allocated additional duties within the capacity, qualifications and experience normally expected for this classification level.

Salary and Allowances

Remuneration will be negotiated based on clinical experience and seniority under the Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Award. Base salary points range from $216,300 (Level 1) to $296,640 (Level 11). Additional allowances may include:

* Motor vehicle allowance up to $28,786 pro rata per annum.
* Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,974 pro rata per annum.
* Relocation allowance.
* On‑call allowance as a percentage of base salary.
* Other allowances per the current Award.

Appointment Details

Fixed‑term full‑time or part‑time day work (with on‑call), up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible until 26 June 2026. Applications will be considered for any part of this timeframe. The selection process may also be used to fill similar vacancies for up to twelve months from date of publication.


Essential Requirements

* Hold specialist registration or be an International Medical Graduate (IMG) on the specialist pathway.
* Alternatively, hold a recognised overseas specialist qualification and be assessed as having sufficient experience.

Pre‑employment checks include: conviction checks (violence, sexual offences, drug offences, dishonesty), identification check and disciplinary action in prior employment. A criminal history or employment misconduct may lead to disqualification.
