About The Role
The Manager - Database Service is accountable for the strategic leadership, operational performance, resilience and security of CTM's enterprise database platforms, including Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL (Microsoft Azure), across cloud and on-premises environments.
The role provides line management, technical oversight and governance assurance for the database function, ensuring database services are delivered reliably, securely and consistently in alignment with CTM's Disaster Recovery (DR), Business Continuity (BCP), Security and Data Governance standards.
This role acts as the single point of accountability for database platform health, risk management and continuous improvement.
This role is a 12 month fixed term contract.
Position Responsibilities
Service Management
Own the end-to-end database service, including availability, performance, capacity, resilience and lifecycle management.
Act as the senior escalation point for major incidents, performance degradation or data-related outages.
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts and insights in a clear and concise manner to non-technical stakeholders, including executives and business leaders.
Backup and Recovery
Accountable for database backup, recovery, and high-availability strategies across all supported platforms.
Ensure regular DR testing, restore validation, and failover exercises are executed and evidenced.
Security Management
Ensure database environments comply with CTM security policies, including:
Role-based access control (RBAC) and least-privilege principles
Encryption of data at rest and in transit
Database auditing and logging
Partner with Security and Risk teams to identify, assess, and mitigate database-related risks.
Support audits and assurance activities (internal, external, regulatory) with clear evidence and documentation.
Experience Requirements
Technical
Strong leadership-level understanding of:
Microsoft SQL Server (on-prem and Azure-based)
PostgreSQL in enterprise and Azure environments
Experience overseeing high-availability architectures, replication, and failover models.
Ability to provide technical direction without needing to be the day-to-day implementer.
Risk Management
Deep understanding of DR, BCP, RTO/RPO concepts and their practical application.
Experience supporting audits, risk reviews, and compliance activities.
Strong judgement in risk-based decision making.
Certifications
Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate (or equivalent)
ITIL Foundation (or higher)
PostgreSQL or SQL Server advanced certifications
