About The Role
Townsville City Council is committed to providing safe, reliable and cost-effective water services to the Townsville community. We understand how important our water is and is striving to preserve this precious resource whilst still allowing residents to use water when they need it. As a city we need to use our water wisely to ensure Townsville's water supply is secure now and into the future.
This is a labouring role and it plays a key role in assisting the Water Team to provide an effective water operation and maintenance service by coordinating site access, permits, and safety and statutory permissions to perform maintenance activities. You will conduct activities for major maintenance/breakdown and planned works to minimise costs associated with breakdowns, ensure effective maintenance of assets, reduce operational down time, and reduce reactive maintenance requirements.
Within Bulk Water Treatment, the role will concentrate on the flushing of reticulation mains, monitoring water quality through chlorine residual testing in the reticulation network and reactive maintenance to water reticulation quality issues.
This role is required to participate in the on-call roster (every 6 weeks, minimum) and overtime arrangements as required, to resolve out of hours operational issues or emergency works including disaster management.
Responsibilities
* Coordinate site access, permits, and safety and statutory permissions to perform maintenance activities.
* Conduct activities for major maintenance/breakdowns and planned works to minimise costs associated with breakdowns and ensure effective maintenance of assets.
* Reduce operational down time and reactive maintenance requirements.
* Flush reticulation mains and monitor chlorine residual testing in the reticulation network.
* Perform reactive maintenance to water reticulation quality issues.
* Participate in the on-call roster (every 6 weeks, minimum) and overtime arrangements as required, including out‐of‐hours operational issues or emergency works and disaster management.
About You Mandatory Qualifications
* Current "MR" class driver's licence (or ability to obtain within 6 months of appointment)
* Construction Industry White Card (30215 QLD)
* Ability to work as part of a team of employees to ensure that interruptions to water supply to Council customers is averted or rectified quickly and efficiently.
* Strong community and customer relations skills.
* Strong work ethic.
Desirable Qualifications
* Sound understanding of Workplace Health and Safety, Environmental Protection, Equal Employment Opportunity, Anti‐discrimination and privacy obligations, and QLD Local Government Act.
* Traffic Management Implementation course accredited.
* Successfully completed asbestos awareness training and have suitable experience in removal of asbestos piping.
* Dogman or Crane Chaser certification.
* Forklift certification.
