Overview

First Nations Learning Leader Identified – Permanent full-time chance (35 hours/week) based at Royal Botanic Garden Sydney. Salary relative to experience and ranges from $113,574 to $125,720 + super.

This role is Aboriginal Identified under the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act. The role centers on shaping and leading the creation of meaningful First Nations learning experiences across the Botanic Gardens of Sydney, designing innovative programs that connect people of all ages with First Nations knowledges, cultures, and histories while aligning with curriculum and strategic goals. It is a hands-on role that includes guiding and supporting team members, building partnerships, and delivering high-quality program development and delivery.

Responsibilities

- Design innovative learning programs that connect diverse audiences with First Nations knowledges, cultures, and histories, aligned with curriculum and strategic goals.
- Lead and support a dispersed casual team; guide peers and manage day-to-day operations.
- Coordinate rostering, oversee budgets, and work with schools, community groups, and industry partners.
- Develop inclusive, high-quality programs that are culturally safe and engaging.

What you will bring to the role — Qualifications

- Experience in developing and delivering high-quality, innovative education programs tailored to diverse audiences.
- Understanding of the formal education sector, informal learning, tourism, and curriculum requirements.
- Leadership experience with supervisory responsibilities and team guidance.
- Strong connection to the community and experience engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Knowledge of Aboriginal cultures and histories to enrich educational content.
- Proven track record in developing and delivering education programs, ideally in cultural institutions or environmental education settings.
- Ability to connect with the community, engage diverse audiences, and deliver impactful education programs.

Essential requirements

- Aboriginality is an essential requirement of this Identified role under the Section 14d of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977; applicants must meet criteria including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, identification as such, and acceptance by the community.
- Current Working with Children Check (WWCC) is an essential requirement for this role.
