This is a senior, influential role for a banking lawyer who enjoys complexity, autonomy and partnering closely with the business. Your advice will directly shape decision-making, governance and the future direction of the organisation.
Role Responsibilities
* Providing senior legal advice across retail banking, financial services, corporate and regulatory matters
* Advising on regulatory compliance including deposit-taking, consumer credit, prudential standards and industry codes
* Monitoring legislative and regulatory developments and advising on business impacts
* Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a broad range of commercial contracts and service arrangements
* Supporting strategic initiatives including mergers, partnerships, new products and enterprise projects
* Identifying and managing legal risk in collaboration with risk and compliance teams
* Supporting governance processes, including Board and Committee papers, resolutions and director obligations
* Managing disputes and litigation matters, including engagement with external counsel
* Acting as a trusted business partner to senior leaders and stakeholders across the organisation
Skills and Experience
* Admitted solicitor with a current unrestricted Australian practising certificate
* Strong post-qualification experience in banking, finance or financial services law
* Demonstrated expertise in retail banking regulation and regulatory frameworks
* Proven ability to deliver clear, pragmatic and commercially sound legal advice in a complex environment
* Experience supporting strategic projects, transactions and enterprise initiatives
* Strong stakeholder management skills and confidence engaging with senior leaders
* Experience within a mutual bank, customer-owned institution or regulated financial services environment highly regarded
* Broader in-house exposure across areas such as consumer credit, privacy, technology, employment or governance advantageous
