Senior Guardian – Aboriginal Targeted
Join NSW Department of Communities and Justice to apply for the Senior Guardian – Aboriginal Targeted role. This position offers opportunities across multiple locations with flexible, hybrid working arrangements.
Locations: Sydney, Parramatta, Gosford, Newcastle and Wollongong.
Work Hours: 35 hours per week.
Salary: Clerk Grade Level 5/6 – $99,938 to $110,271 p.a., plus superannuation and annual leave loading.

About the Role
The Senior Guardian is responsible for delivering quality guardianship services, including decision‑making, record‑keeping, advocacy and reporting in line with the Guardianship Act 1987 (NSW) and relevant policy.
- Make decisions in line with delegated authority within the Guardianship Division, ensuring the best interests of our customers.
- Ensure accurate and timely exchange of information with represented people, families and key stakeholders, maintaining compliance with legislation.
- Conduct visits to people represented by the Public Guardian in line with the Guardianship Standards.
As a Senior Guardian You Will
- Decide where a person lives and what services they receive, such as personal care and therapy.
- Consent to medical and dental treatment on behalf of the represented person.
- Prepare guardianship‑related case reports for the Guardianship Division of the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
- Work with key stakeholders—including family, health professionals and service providers—to negotiate appropriate options and positive outcomes.

- Committed to providing insightful and timely customer service in complex, sensitive and time‑critical situations.
- Strong communicator, able to collaborate with stakeholders, peers and customers.
- Capable of building relationships and supporting customers in making life decisions.
- Demonstrates empathy, emotional intelligence and an interest in social outcomes, justice and advocacy.
- Good working understanding of service systems such as the NDIS, aged care and mental health.
Key Knowledge and Experience
- Knowledge of guardianship practice, advocacy and related services accessed by vulnerable people.
Essential Requirements
- Degree and/or equivalent in social work, health, behavioural sciences or a related discipline.
- Available to travel throughout NSW and to undertake after‑hours work where required.
