What you will do as the Principal Lawyer
The Principal Lawyer position is part of the legal team of Corporate Law Unit (CLU) and reports to the Managing Principal Lawyer, CLU. The Specialist Advice and Services Division (SASD) is the ACCC's in-house provider of legal, economic, data, intelligence, international and information services across the ACCC. The national legal service within SASD provides specialist legal services to the ACCC.
As Principal Lawyer You Will
* Have a broad understanding of the Commonwealth legal environment.
* Provide strategic legal advice on issues relating to the functions and powers of the ACCC, including to the Commissioners, executive and employees of the ACCC / AER on corporate governance and whole of agency and APS legal risks and issues.
* Develop and maintain professional relationships at all levels within the ACCC to assist SASD to provide a responsive client service.
* Provide leadership, guidance and supervision to other members of the CLU legal team.
About You
All candidates are expected to meet the APS Integrated Leadership Profile (ILS) for the classification advertised. Follow the link for more information on the ILS.
This Role In Particular Requires
* Admission as a practitioner, however described, of the High Court or the Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory, or the ability to become so admitted before commencing in the role.
* Substantial legal experience at a senior practitioner level in matters relevant to the functions of CLU.
* Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to communicate legal and strategic advice clearly to a range of audiences.
* Demonstrated experience working collaboratively and collegiately across teams and with people at different levels.
* Demonstrated experience leading a team or similar role in a fast-paced and large complex people-centred organisation.
* Knowledge of the ACCC's functions and objectives, or the ability to acquire that knowledge.

Salary : Lawyer 2 (EL2) $162,619 - $172,365 (plus 15.4% superannuation)
