An opportunity has become available for a Student Support Officer (AO4) to join the Team at Tagai State College - SchoolTech program. This is a Temporary Full-time position, based at the secondary campus of Tagai State College, until 04 December 2026 unless otherwise determined.

About The School
Tagai State College consists of 16 Primary campuses and one Secondary campus across 48,000 square kilometres of ocean in the Torres Strait. The College also has a TAFE campus on Thursday Island.
About SchoolTech
Funded with approximately $2 million through DYJESBT, the SchoolTech program runs for Grade 11 and 12 students from 2024-2026, aiming to make this initiative sustainable. It enables students to combine their QCE studies, Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses, and Structured Work Placement, focusing on employment preparation and smooth transition from school to work. The program emphasizes partnerships with employers, industry bodies, and TAFE Queensland.
Your Role
The Student Support Officer will:
* Liaise and support students and families in the SchoolTech Program and engage with the wider community.
* Promote the benefits of the program to improve outcomes for students and families.
Key Responsibilities
* Implement systems for case managing students in the SchoolTech pathway and provide intervention strategies.
* Maintain records of student progress in VET courses, liaising with trainers for updates.
* Support students during training, assessments, and VET blocks.
* Monitor participation, behavior, attendance, and wellbeing, and intervene as needed.
* Develop initiatives to boost engagement in VET.
* Build positive relationships with students, parents, community, and elders, contributing to local decision-making.
* Conduct home visits to encourage attendance and motivate students.
* Address educational, social, emotional, or behavioral issues with students and families.
* Create strategies to promote communication and resolve concerns within the community.
* Update student management systems for grades 10-12.
Note: This role does not include departmental housing; applicants must have local accommodation.
