Northern Territory Director of Public Prosecutions
An opportunity exists for a highly experienced legal practitioner for the significant role of Director of Public Prosecutions in the Northern Territory.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has responsibility for the prosecution of all indictable offences in the Supreme Court and summary offences in the Darwin Local Court, and in conjunction with PoliceProsecutions, all contested hearings in the Alice Springs Local Court and regional and circuit courts. It also provides a witness and victim support service. The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has a $22.5 million budget and nominal complement of 140 staff.
The right candidate will be an exceptional, senior legal practitioner with admission of at least 10 years, who possesses:
- an ability to operate with qualified integrity and independently make sound decisions at the highest level;
- a capacity to communicate effectively with the public, judicial officers, police, other government agencies and the Attorney-General;
- substantial practical experience in criminal law and highly developed legal and advocacy skills; and
- proven, effective budget and people management capabilities.
A substantial remuneration package is offered.
