Shape the future of WA’s coasts
Play a leading role in coastal adaptation and engineering programs, delivering real, positive impact to our community.
Joining the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure (DTMI) allows you to play a part in supporting the people of Western Australia to enjoy and manage their coastal areas. We are a progressive organisation. We are leaders in providing safe, accessible, sustainable, and efficient solutions that promote wellbeing, economic prosperity and enhance the lifestyles of all Western Australians.
The Opportunity
We’re seeking an exceptional coastal engineering professional to lead Western Australia’s coastal adaptation and management efforts.
As the senior authority in coastal engineering within DTMI, you’ll head our Fremantle-based Coastal Engineering and Management team and oversee the delivery of the State Government’s coastal engineering and management programs.
This is more than a management role. You’ll be the state’s trusted expert and strategic voice on coastal matters — shaping policy, advising government, and delivering technical excellence across major maritime precincts and infrastructure projects. Your work will directly influence how communities interact with and adapt to our dynamic coastline.
You will oversee advanced coastal modelling, engineering design, and risk assessments, while mentoring a high-performing team and collaborating across agencies. The role includes occasional travel across WA and interstate, including to remote coastal locations.
This is a unique and exciting opportunity to shape the future of WA’s coastline, guiding policy, innovation, and investment to help communities protect and thrive along our shores.
This is a full-time permanent opportunity.
