The Opportunity
We're seeking a Site Manager to lead the on‐site delivery of major investigation programs. You'll coordinate crews, subcontractors, HSE requirements and data quality from mobilisation through to demobilisation, and play a critical role in ensuring the investigation is delivered to scope, schedule and agreed standards, and that the field information captured is audit‐ready and supports high‐quality factual reporting.
What you'll do:
* Lead the end‐to‐end field delivery of major geotechnical site investigations from mobilisation to demobilisation
* Own site‐based HSE leadership, ensuring hazards are managed, controls are effective, and subcontractors meet all site and Principal Contractor requirements
* Plan and coordinate field activities, including drilling, CPT, test pits, geophysics and in‐situ testing, aligning methods to scope and program
* Manage subcontractor performance on site, providing clear direction, overseeing quality, and resolving access, interface and sequencing issues
* Ensure high‐quality sampling, logging and documentation, with robust field QA/QC and auditable chain‐of‐custody processes
* Oversee installation of monitoring and instrumentation (where required), ensuring accurate records, compliance with specifications, and complete handover documentation
* Act as the key on‐site interface for clients and internal discipline leads, communicating progress, constraints, risks and required decisions
* Track field progress against schedule, identify risks early, and support change, variation and cost control processes for site delivery packages
* Review and contribute to daily reports, registers and field records, ensuring data is structured, complete and report‐ready
* Coordinate, mentor and guide site supervisors and field staff, lifting capability and consistently modelling strong safety and quality standards
About you
You're an experienced professional who can operate with minimal direction, apply sound judgement, and coordinate others to deliver outcomes.
* Bachelor of Engineering or Geology (postgraduate qualifications advantageous)
* At least 7 years' proven experience delivering and supervising geotechnical site investigations (field management + QA/QC + reporting support)
* Strong background coordinating subcontractors and managing site interfaces (access, permits, services searches)
* Experience working with multi‐disciplinary teams (e.g., hydrogeology, contamination/environment)
* Current driver's licence and willingness to travel to sites as required
* Relevant HSE training/competency (role profile training and/or site readiness as applicable)
* Working towards or holding professional accreditation (e.g., chartered status) is advantageous
What success looks like
* Zero harm outcomes and strong subcontractor HSE compliance
* Field records (logs, registers, chain‐of‐custody) that are clean, complete and audit‐ready
* Program adherence with early risk escalation and disciplined change control
* Strong client/stakeholder satisfaction and minimal field rework
