Offer description

Mamamia is Australia's largest independent women's media group and our core purpose is to make the world a better place for women and girls. We reach seven and a half million women each month across written, video and social platforms and we have the largest women's podcast network in the world with 55 different shows.

About the role

As our Managing Editor, you will be the creative and operational engine driving Mamamia's vibrant lifestyle verticals. This is a high-energy, senior leadership role where you'll do more than just manage a content flow—you'll actively shape the stories that matter most to women and girls. Sitting at the heart of our lifestyle team, you will balance the art of soulful storytelling with the science of digital performance, ensuring our content is always zeitgeisty, relevant, and deeply impactful. You'll lead with purpose, empowering a talented team of writers to hit their goals while contributing to a culture that truly makes the world a better place.

Here's some of the stuff you can expect to be doing if you join us:
* Lead the strategic hunt for high-value stories, commissioning approximately 10 high-performing pieces each week.
* Act as the editorial guardian for lifestyle content, overseeing travel, fashion, beauty, food, family, and relationships.
* Spearhead the '100 Voices' project to discover fresh talent and bring diverse new perspectives to our platform.
* Mentor and manage a dedicated team, providing the honest and supportive feedback they need to thrive.
* Maintain operational excellence through forward-planning calendars and prepping content for commercial buyouts.
* Drive \"of-the-moment\" ideas in daily news meetings and support major initiatives like the You Beauty Awards.
* Get hands-on with editing 3-4 stories a day, ensuring every piece is polished and perfectly packaged for our audience.
* Assist with homepage curation to ensure our \"digital front door\" always looks its best.
Now, a bit about you
* You are a seasoned editor with a background in fast-paced digital publishing and a qualification in Journalism or Communications.
* You're a savvy content strategist who knows exactly how to make a story fly across site, socials, and newsletters.
* You have a \"talent scout\" mindset, with a knack for finding and briefing unique freelance voices.
* You are an empowering leader who leads with curiosity, respect, and a commitment to making the work better.
* You possess strong analytical skills and can keep a cool, measured head even when the news cycle is moving at lightning speed.
* You bring a Positive Mental Attitude (PMA) to the team every day and genuinely love to collaborate and \"wow\" your colleagues.
* You are deeply aligned with our mission and passionate about creating content that resonates with the lives of women.
Life at Mamamia

The core purpose of Mamamia is to make the world a better place for women and girls, and we live this philosophy in the content we create and with the work we do. While our core purpose informs every business and content decision we make, we execute on our purpose in a way that's engaging, entertaining and adds meaning and value to the lives of Australian women.

We're passionate about embracing AI and technology in our creative process, constantly exploring new ways to enhance storytelling and connect with our audience - we're excited for you to join us on this innovative journey.
