Job Summary
Opportunities have arisen to join our teams at Colchester Hospital and Ipswich Hospital. We are inviting applications for a full-time post, Consultant Histopathologist. Applicants will have completed CCT or equivalent (Portfolio Pathway) and must be on the Specialist Register. Any applicant who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues. Main duties of the job
Clinical
* The new appointee will automatically be a member of the Medical Staff Committee.
* Participate in the departmental rota for routine surgical pathology reporting and dissection.
* Attend MDTs according to rostering and clinical need.
* Participate in the MDT cancer care structure and assume leadership for cell pathology in at least one MDT, as appropriate to interests and departmental needs, in consultation with consultant colleagues.
* Refer specialist cases to appropriate referral centres for reporting.

Job Description & Responsibilities
General
* Work with colleagues to provide a consultant-led service of the highest standard.
* Work with multidisciplinary teams to develop care pathways and clinical guidelines.
* Develop and maintain good working practices, including adherence to departmental SOPs and guidelines issued by professional bodies (e.g., Royal College of Pathologists).
* Offer support and leadership to junior medical colleagues and other team members, including laboratory, secretarial and mortuary staff.
* Collaborate with colleagues in tertiary centres, community services and primary care.
* Share in duties for diagnosis, treatment, and care of patients; within Histopathology, utilise the full skill mix including biomedical scientist dissection.
Person Specification
Essential
* Full and specialist GMC registration (or eligible for registration within 6 months of interview)
* FRCPath or equivalent qualification
* UK-trained applicants must be a holder of CCT or be within six months of award by interview date
* Non-UK trained applicants must show evidence of equivalence to UK CCT
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for reporting surgical pathology
* Evidence of clinical audit
Desirable
* Training in appraisal techniques
* Service development experience or knowledge
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for performing post mortem examinations
