James Meehan High School is a comprehensive secondary school located in Macquarie Fields, serving a diverse and vibrant community. The school represents 29 cultural groups and 27 language backgrounds, with 41% of students from a language background other than English, 32% from Pasifika backgrounds, and 20% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. The school maintains strong partnerships with Aboriginal and Pasifika communities, ensuring culturally responsive and inclusive educational practices.
The school delivers high‐quality, evidence‐informed teaching and learning with a strong focus on literacy, numeracy, and student growth. A Special Education Unit supports students with intellectual disability, autism, and complex learning needs, ensuring inclusive and personalised learning pathways. The Head Teacher Mathematics also oversees the CAPA faculty within the school's horizontal and vertical leadership structure, strengthening cross‐faculty collaboration, building staff capability, and ensuring consistent, high‐quality teaching and learning across the school.
Specific Selection Criteria
* Demonstrated capacity to lead faculty improvement through evidence‐informed practice, building staff capability to deliver high quality instruction responsive to students' evolving needs and offer high level of mathematics courses.
* Proven expertise in leading data‐driven practice to strengthen curriculum responsiveness and differentiation across the faculty.
* Demonstrated ability to lead whole‐school initiatives through collaborative leadership and strong alignment with the executive team.
* Proven capacity to lead whole‐school numeracy improvement to strengthen outcomes for all students, including students with disability.
General Selection Criteria
* Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice.
* Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs.
* Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams.
* Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents.
* Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning.
* Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy.
