Moorabbin Airport is Victoria's leading metropolitan-based flight training airport, supporting safe and efficient general aviation operations. We are seeking an experienced Airport Safety & Compliance Officer to play a critical role in maintaining regulatory compliance, operational safety, and environmental stewardship across the airport.
This role is central to ensuring the airport meets its obligations across aviation safety, environmental management, airspace protection, security, and emergency response, while supporting safe day‐to‐day airside operations.
Note: This is site-based role on rotational shift: Monday to Friday three weeks per month, one week per month has weekend requirements (Saturday and Sunday mornings / on call).
The Role
As an integral part of the Airport Operations team, you will be responsible for delivering robust compliance frameworks, conducting audits and inspections, and working closely with regulators, tenants, contractors, and internal teams to uphold the highest safety and compliance standards.
Regulatory Compliance & Governance
* Maintain compliance with applicable airport legislation, regulations, approvals, and standards, including environmental obligations, airspace protection, building controls, and land‐use provisions.
* Establish, maintain, and continuously improve compliance systems, registers, audit programs, and reporting frameworks.
* Identify regulatory and compliance risks and ensure these are considered in planning, development, and operational decision‐making.
* Prepare internal and external compliance reports for management and regulators.
* Interface with regulatory authorities and government agencies in relation to audits, inspections, reporting, and approvals.
Airport Operations, Safety & Inspections
* Conduct routine aerodrome inspections in accordance with CASA requirements.
* Monitor and report the condition of runways, taxiways, aprons, grassed areas, markings, lighting, and airfield infrastructure.
* Undertake obstacle inspections within prescribed airspace both on and off airport.
* Ensure airport works are undertaken safely and in compliance with legislative and operational requirements.
* Undertake light maintenance activities to meet infrastructure standards.
* Enforce airside access, vehicle control, and security requirements in line with the Transport Security Program and Airside Vehicle Control Handbook.
Environment, Security & Emergency Management
* Monitor and report compliance with the Airport Environment Strategy, environmental approvals, and incident response requirements.
* Implement wildlife hazard management procedures to ensure safe aircraft operations.
* Maintain security integrity in line with the Transport Security Plan (TSP).
* Participate in aerodrome emergency procedures and fulfil assigned duties under the Airport Emergency Plan.
* Participate in an on‐call roster to respond to emergency events outside normal business hours.
Stakeholder Engagement & Capability Building
* Oversee tenant, contractor, and third‐party compliance with airport rules and operational controls.
* Develop, review, and maintain airport policies, procedures, and guidelines to support consistent compliance practices.
* Educate and support tenants, contractors, and internal teams through training, guidance, and compliance communications.
Reporting & Administration
* Accurately complete operational logs, inspections, incident reports, and compliance documentation.
* Maintain Safety Action Plans, Environment Action Plans, Building Activity Registers, and operating manuals.
* Contribute to maintenance planning and scheduling activities where required.
Requirements
You are a highly organised and safety‐focused professional with experience operating in a regulated aviation or infrastructure environment. You bring strong judgement, attention to detail, and confidence engaging with regulators and stakeholders in complex operational settings.
* Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC).
* Current Australian driver's licence.
* Airside Driving Authority (ADA).
* Aerodrome Reporting Officer Certificate.
* Aircraft Radiotelephone Operator's Certificate of Proficiency.
* Current Senior First Aid Certificate.
* Qualifications or certification relevant to plant and equipment operation.
* Formal training in Occupational Health and Safety.
* Demonstrated experience in audit, compliance, reporting, and incident investigation within a regulatory environment.
* Strong document control and reporting capability.
