What You\'ll Be Doing

The Bariatric / Upper GI Fellow will be a newly qualified surgeon seeking to enhance skills in elective and emergency surgery and outpatient surgical consultations. The fellowship is endorsed by the Australian & Recent Zealand Metabolic Obesity Surgical Society (ANZMOSS) as a recognised post for specialist training in all aspects of metabolic / bariatric surgical care.

The Fellowship will involve clinical and research work, including provision of bariatric surgery and perioperative care. The Bariatric Fellow will participate in the on-call roster, assist with the department\'s educational role, provide clinical care to patients, and attend bariatric outpatient clinics (MOS Clinic) to advance knowledge in assessment and management, including partnership with allied health services.

The Fellow will work with Specialist Surgeons and Registrars appointed to MLHD at Wagga Wagga Base Hospital for a 12-month period. There may be a requirement to provide support at other sites within the LHD.

Where you\'ll be working

Wagga Wagga Base Hospital provides a 24/7 Emergency Department serving the town and surrounding areas. The department includes telehealth capabilities with the Critical Care Advisory Service. There is an Interventional Services Department with a Cardiac Catheter Lab, a Hybrid (DSA) lab and a Cardiac Procedure Room. Services include critical care, medical, surgical, paediatric, obstetric and rehabilitation care, plus a full range of allied health and support services.

Wagga Wagga is the largest regional city in NSW, with an urban population over 60,000, located on the Murrumbidgee River. The area offers a range of activities, dining, markets, wineries, galleries and recreational spaces.

Selection Criteria

- Evidence of a Medical qualification that is registrable with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Letter of support from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons supporting Fellowship placement in General Surgery and indicating completion of fellowship training requirements in General Surgery and successful completion of the Part II examination.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing medical education relevant to General Surgery.
- Willing to commit to an equitable hospital on-call roster for Surgery.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with medical and other health service colleagues as part of a multidisciplinary team and to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues and staff.
- Willingness to teach medical students and staff when reasonably requested, with demonstrated commitment to clinical quality improvement, peer review, equal employment opportunity and Occupational Health Safety and Rehabilitation.
- Demonstrated significant experience relevant to General Surgery and competence in skills relevant to Australian rural hospital practice, including trauma and emergency scenarios.
