The Opportunity

Step into a senior role that shapes the safety, compliance and long term functionality of Wollongong City Council's diverse building portfolio. As part of the Infrastructure Strategy & Planning team, you'll work closely with the Infrastructure Assets Manager, Senior Planners, Coordinators, City Works teams, consultants and contractors to lead the delivery of building compliance programs that directly support Council's purpose of creating an
extraordinary Wollongong
.

You will be at the centre of planning and coordinating compliance activities across a wide range of community, operational and commercial buildings. You'll influence decision making, collaborate across disciplines, and guide the integration of compliance audits, fire safety measures, statutory approvals and risk management frameworks.

This is a permanent full time position. Salary from $127,114 up to $145,341 per annum, plus superannuation and an operational Motor Vehicle under lease back arrangements. A 3.5% Civil Liability allowance may also apply.
(Salary package will be assessed based on skills, experience and qualifications).

You may be required to work flexible hours including being on call, overtime or weekends, dependent on operational requirements.

How you'll make a difference

In this senior role, you will:

* Lead building compliance programs across Council's extensive building portfolio.
* Oversee statutory compliance activities including NCC, BCA, WHS and environmental requirements.
* Coordinate and present technical information, project findings and compliance risks to executive stakeholders and decision making groups.
* Manage contracts, procurement processes, consultants and compliance focused contractors.
* Shape and contribute to compliance related strategic planning, audits and risk mitigation strategies.
* Build collaborative relationships across Infrastructure Assets, City Works, planners, coordinators and operational building teams.
* Champion best practice in WHS, quality management and project governance.

Your work ensures Council's buildings remain safe, compliant and future ready for the community.

About you

You are a
senior level compliance professional
with established capability leading building compliance programs across large and diverse asset portfolios. You are confident operating at a senior level and thrive in roles that balance technical depth, leadership influence and community impact. You hold a
relevant degree
(Engineering or Building & Construction)
or a tertiary qualification
(e.g., Cert IV in Carpentry/Joinery) with substantial related experience and a current, valid Class C driver licence.

You bring
experience
with:

* Statutory compliance (NCC, BCA, WHS)
* Contract and contractor management
* Presenting complex technical information to senior and executive stakeholders
* Leading through influence within multidisciplinary environments
