AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, i.e., the people who keep the cloud running.

The Data Centre Community is looking for an extraordinary leader with proven management skills as a Data Centre Operations (DCO) Cluster Manager in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

Key job responsibilities

* Lead and supervise a team of Data Centre Managers (3-9 area and front-line managers) and 50-100 employees within Regional Data Centres.
* Accountability for meeting and exceeding operational goals, owning performance goals relating to safety, security, availability, scaling, and efficiency in data centre operations.
* Carry out managerial and leadership responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures.
* Strategic planning and forecasting; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees; resolve problems; address staffing needs.
* Develop and share operational best practices globally.
* Foster team learning and development, including mentoring and training in technical/functional and soft skills (critical thinking, emotional intelligence, adaptability).
* Hiring, managing, and developing the operations management team including data centre managers and operations technicians.
* Plan and execute the Infrastructure Operations component of new AWS data centre build-outs, colocation build-outs, expansions, including network and server rack infrastructure.
* Experience in insourcing and/or outsourcing specific tasks balancing internal skillsets with frugality.
* Continuous improvement of operational processes, procedures, methods, and tools.

A day in the life

A typical day at AWS is continuously evolving; a leader helps smooth out change cycles. This role involves working with global partners and managing local leaders, spending time between both spaces daily. The position requires the flexibility to adapt to priorities and meetings as needed. We work hard, have fun, and make history daily.

About the team

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centres and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment to ensure continual access for customers. We work on challenging problems with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain, and we're looking for talented people to help.

You'll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You'll collaborate with people across AWS to deliver high safety and security standards while providing capacity at the lowest possible cost. You'll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them through completion.

Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree or above in computer science, computer engineering, or related field, or experience managing teams.
* 7+ years of team management experience.
* 5+ years of operations management experience.
* 4+ years of professional work experience, or experience in technical work related to computer systems and technology components.
* Experience with budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis.
* Experience with six sigma tools and Lean techniques.
* Experience identifying security issues and risks, and developing mitigation plans.
* Experience developing and managing a high-performing team.
* Experience communicating technical details verbally and in writing.
* Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement principles and techniques.
* Knowledge of network scaling and hardware systems.
* Deep understanding of server and storage technologies.
* Knowledge of data centre MEP infrastructure (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) including Power, Cooling, and Facilities Management.
* Knowledge of data centre operations, processes, and continuous process improvement.
* Experience managing large-scale technological services.
