Position Summary
The Senior Project Manager is responsible for the overall planning, coordination, delivery and financial performance of multiple civil construction projects for Stark Civil. This role provides leadership across project teams, supervisors, subcontractors and suppliers to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.
The role requires the ability to manage several projects at any given time, including active involvement in project planning, contract administration, client liaison, commercial management and team leadership. The Senior Project Manager must be willing and able to work remotely away from home at project locations when required to support project delivery and business needs.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management and Delivery
Manage multiple civil construction projects simultaneously from award through to completion.
Lead project planning, programming, procurement, delivery and close-out activities.
Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and in accordance with contract requirements.
Monitor project progress, identify risks and delays early, and implement corrective actions where required.
Oversee site teams to ensure works are completed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, quality standards and company procedures.
Coordinate labour, plant, equipment, subcontractors and suppliers to achieve efficient project outcomes.
Review construction methodologies and sequencing to improve productivity and reduce delivery risk.
Commercial and Financial Management
Prepare, monitor and manage project budgets, forecasts, cost reports and cash flow.
Track project financial performance, including cost to complete, variations, claims and margins.
Ensure timely preparation, assessment and submission of progress claims, variations, extension of time claims and other contract notices.
Review subcontractor and supplier claims for accuracy and compliance with contracts and purchase orders.
Identify commercial risks and opportunities and elevate key issues to management promptly.
Assist in protecting Stark Civil's contractual and financial position on all projects.
Contract Administration
Administer contracts in accordance with head contract and subcontract requirements.
Maintain accurate project records, correspondence, notices and supporting documentation.
Manage client, superintendent, consultant and subcontractor communications professionally and effectively.
Ensure project obligations are understood and met across time, cost, quality and compliance requirements.
Support dispute avoidance and resolution through proactive management and clear documentation.
Leadership and Team Management
Lead and mentor Project Engineers, Site Supervisors, Foremen and other project staff.
Promote strong communication, accountability and teamwork across all project personnel.
Provide direction and support to ensure project teams perform at a high standard.
Assist with workforce planning and allocation of resources across multiple projects.
Contribute to a positive culture aligned with Stark Civil's values and expectations.
Client and Stakeholder Management
Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
Represent Stark Civil professionally in meetings, negotiations and project communications.
Manage client expectations and proactively address project issues to maintain confidence and trust.
Support repeat business opportunities through strong project outcomes and client satisfaction.
Safety, Quality and Compliance
Drive a strong safety culture across all projects and ensure compliance with WHS obligations, site rules and company procedures.
Ensure project teams, subcontractors and suppliers work in a safe, compliant and responsible manner.
Monitor quality assurance processes, inspections, testing and documentation.
Ensure environmental, statutory and regulatory obligations are met at all times.
Promote continuous improvement in project systems, safety, quality and delivery practices.
Remote Work and Travel Requirements
This role requires regular travel to project locations and attendance on site as needed.
The Senior Project Manager must be willing to work away from home and stay in regional or remote locations where project requirements demand.
Flexibility in working hours may be required to meet operational and project delivery needs.
Skills and Experience
Extensive experience in project management within civil construction.
Proven ability to successfully manage multiple projects concurrently.
Strong knowledge of civil construction methodologies, project sequencing and site operations.
Demonstrated experience in contract administration, cost control and commercial management.
Strong understanding of Australian construction contracts, project risk and compliance requirements.
Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
Strong problem-solving ability and sound commercial judgement.
Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities effectively.
Proficient in project management systems, programming tools and Microsoft Office Suite.
Qualifications
Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or a related field preferred.
Relevant industry experience in lieu of formal qualifications may be considered.
Construction White Card.
Any other relevant tickets, licences or certifications desirable.
