About the Opportunity
The University of Sydney is seeking a Senior Business Analyst to play a key role in the Service Excellence Program – a major, university‐wide strategic initiative focused on improving how professional services support our community.
Service Excellence has a clear vision: excellent professional services that make it easy to study, work, teach and research. In this role, you will partner with leaders and subject‐matter experts across the University to uncover needs, define opportunities and translate complex requirements into clear, actionable deliverables. You will bring structure and momentum to service improvement initiatives – producing high‐quality analysis and documentation, shaping options and recommendations, and supporting delivery teams to implement changes that improve experiences for staff and students.
Working in a complex and evolving environment, you'll help convert strategic objectives into practical service improvements. You will influence ways of working across teams, apply service design and business analysis practices, and help embed a culture of continuous improvement that supports the University's priorities.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the capture, analysis and prioritisation of stakeholder and end‐user requirements, ensuring alignment to service design objectives.
* Apply design thinking and service design methods to co‐design user‐centred, scalable service models and improvements.
* Develop and maintain high‐quality documentation, including business processes, functional requirements and system specifications, ensuring clarity, accuracy and usability.
* Plan and help facilitate workshops and maintain effective communication with stakeholders to build shared understanding and alignment on objectives, progress, risks and decisions.
* Shape options, evaluate impacts and recommend solutions that meet stakeholder needs and integrate with existing frameworks and platforms.
* Establish and apply quality assurance practices so deliverables and implemented changes meet agreed standards for accuracy, compliance and service outcomes.
About you
* Demonstrated experience analysing and improving business processes in a complex environment (ideally tertiary education), with an ability to navigate governance and decision‐making pathways.
* Strong facilitation skills, with experience running workshops and interviews to elicit requirements, align stakeholders and drive decisions.
* Hands‐on experience applying design thinking and service design approaches to co‐create user‐centred and scalable service improvements.
* Working knowledge of delivery approaches (e.g., Agile and Waterfall), and the judgment to tailor analysis and artefacts to the delivery context.
* Excellent analytical and problem‐solving capability, with a track record of producing practical recommendations and sustainable outcomes in changing environments.
