Hybrid Cloud Integration Architect – Application and Middleware Specialist
IBM Australia is seeking a Hybrid Cloud Integration Architect, specialising in Application and Middleware integration solutions, responsible for designing, governing, and delivering integration architectures across hybrid environments (on-premises, private cloud, public cloud, SaaS). This role ensures seamless interoperability between enterprise applications, middleware platforms, COTS solutions, data platforms, and network domains while driving modernisation and digital transformation initiatives.
The role operates at both strategic and hands‐on levels, defining enterprise integration standards while guiding complex program execution across Australia's most significant public and private sector organisations.

Your Role and Responsibilities
Enterprise Integration Strategy & Architecture
* Define and maintain the enterprise hybrid cloud integration roadmap.
* Design target‐state architectures across:
o Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP, private cloud)
o Middleware platforms (ESB, API gateways, iPaaS)
o COTS/ERP/CRM platforms (e.g., SAP, Salesforce, ServiceNow)
o Legacy systems and mainframe environments
* Develop reusable integration patterns (event‐driven, API‐first, microservices, batch, streaming).
* Establish integration reference architectures and guardrails.
* Architect solutions involving:
o API management platforms
o Messaging and event streaming platforms (e.g., Kafka)
o Identity and access integrations (SSO, OAuth, OIDC)
* Ensure scalability, high availability, and fault tolerance.
* Define middleware modernization strategies (monolith to microservices, SOA to API/event‐driven).
* Improve data interoperability across systems, networks and platforms.
* Lead integration strategies across:
o On‐prem to cloud
o Address network segmentation, zero trust, and secure connectivity patterns.
* Design hybrid data synchronization and consistency strategies.
* Accelerate onboarding of new applications and SaaS platforms.
* Define phased migration approaches (re-host, re-platform, refactor, replace).
* Provide architecture leadership during integration and transformation initiatives.
* Establish DevSecOps and CI/CD integration best practices.
* Define modernisation pathway for legacy applications.
Stakeholder & Cross‐Functional Leadership
* Engage with business, infrastructure, security, and data teams.
* Translate business capability needs into integration architecture.
* Mentor senior engineers and integration leads.
* Act as a trusted advisor to executive leadership.
Governance & Standards
* Establish enterprise integration standards and policies.
* Create architecture review boards for integration solutions.
* Define API lifecycle governance and catalog strategy.
* Ensure compliance with regulatory and cybersecurity frameworks.
Required Education
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
* TOGAF, Zachman, or equivalent enterprise architecture certification preferred.
* Cloud certifications (AWS/Azure/GCP Architect level).
Professional Experience
* 12–15+ years in enterprise IT.
* 7–10+ years in architecture roles.
* Proven experience leading large‐scale hybrid cloud integration initiatives.
* Demonstrated leadership in enterprise transformation or modernization programs.
* Experience working in complex, regulated, or large‐scale environments.
* AWS, Azure, GCP (multi‐cloud experience preferred).
* Kubernetes and container orchestration.
Middleware & Integration
* ESB platforms (e.g., MuleSoft, IBM Integration Bus, TIBCO, webMethods).
Applications & COTS
* ERP integrations (SAP, Oracle).
* Identity providers (Azure AD, Okta).
* Enterprise SaaS ecosystems.
Networking & Security
* Hybrid connectivity (VPN, ExpressRoute, Direct Connect).
* Zero Trust architectures.
* IAM federation and token‐based authentication.
* Data encryption and secure API patterns.
Architecture & Engineering Practices
* Microservices and domain‐driven design.
* Infrastructure as Code.
* Observability and distributed tracing.
* Data architecture and integration patterns.
Other Requirements
* Australian citizen and eligible to work on secure projects.
* Willing to travel mostly interstate as/when required.
