RDWSA will proudly operate and maintain 6 new stations, 12 metro trains, core rail systems, and a state‑of‑the‑art stabling and maintenance facility at Orchard Hills on the Western Sydney Airport metro line for 15 years after the line has become operational.
About the Role
The Infrastructure Maintenance Vehicle Machine Operator plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, efficient and reliable operation of Infrastructure Maintenance Vehicles (IMVs), plant and machinery across both the depot and the wider rail network. This 24/7 rostered, hands‑on position supports the maintenance programme by preparing, operating and managing specialised equipment to keep the network running smoothly and safely. Key responsibilities include:
* Operate the fleet of IMVs, including the Battery Electric Locomotive, Tunnel Cleaning Vehicle, Rail Grinding Vehicle, Multi‑Measurement Vehicle and Hi‑Rail Multi‑Purpose Vehicle.
* Operate depot working equipment and machinery, such as the train wash, cranes and other depot‑based plant.
* Prepare and configure IMVs for maintenance activities, conducting pre‑start checks and ensuring vehicles are in safe working order prior to deployment.
* Shunt IMVs and wagons into the correct consists based on scheduled maintenance tasks, in coordination with depot and operations teams.
* Support the Depot Supervisor with daily depot operations, including inspections, movements of rolling stock and hi‑rail, and other maintenance support activities.
* Assist maintenance crews by operating IMVs, plant and machinery to facilitate network maintenance activities and ensure timely completion of works.
* Perform low‑level maintenance and inspections on IMVs, lodge work orders and report defects to maintain operational readiness.
* Collaborate with maintenance partners and the depot controller to coordinate IMV movements and maintenance scheduling.
* Ensure all operations are performed safely, complying with rail network regulations, RATP Dev procedures and safety management systems.
About You
You're an experienced machinery or rail operations professional who takes pride in safe, precise and efficient work. You enjoy hands‑on roles, operating specialist plant and equipment, and contributing to the smooth running of a complex transport environment.
* Proven experience operating heavy machinery or rail infrastructure vehicles, ideally within a maintenance or operational setting.
* Familiarity with depot operations, shunting and the movement of rolling stock or maintenance vehicles.
* A Cert IV in Train Driving and preferably a Cert II in Rail Infrastructure.
* A strong focus on safety and compliance, with the discipline to follow procedures and maintain high operational standards.
* The ability to work collaboratively with maintenance, depot and operations teams to achieve shared outcomes.
* Attention to detail and pride in ensuring equipment is maintained, logged and presented to the highest standard.
* A proactive approach to identifying issues, escalating where required and supporting continuous improvement in daily operations.
* A valid NSW Manual C class driver's licence (high‑risk work licence and rail plant & equipment tickets highly regarded).
