Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Financial Manager to join our team. As a key member of our finance department, you will play a critical role in delivering comprehensive financial services that underpin the organisation's strategic goals.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve managing core financial operations such as reconciliations and expenditure monitoring while also taking ownership of budget preparation and complex reporting tasks. You will act as a trusted advisor on all matters relating to financial management—liaising with government agencies to ensure compliance and leading initiatives to improve existing systems.
Key Responsibilities
* Oversee operational financial management activities including reconciliations, monitoring expenditure, managing appropriation funding, and preparing financial reports in line with legislative requirements and organisational policy.
* Implement effective processes to ensure robust budget management that aligns with strategic and operational objectives.
* Provide insightful strategic and operational financial management advice to internal stakeholders across the organisation.
* Liaise with key external agencies such as Queensland Treasury, Queensland Audit Office, and the Department of Justice and Attorney-General to ensure compliance with all finance reporting standards.
* Lead the preparation of annual budgets, complex financial reports, submissions, briefing notes, and correspondence on diverse financial management issues.
* Design, develop, document, maintain, and enhance accounting systems, budgetary frameworks, and associated financial procedures for optimal performance.
* Support the continuous improvement of financial systems by identifying opportunities for process enhancements and implementing best practices.
Requirements
* Demonstrated experience in operational finance management within a complex organisational environment is highly valued for this position.
* Proven ability to prepare detailed budgets, financial reports, submissions, briefing notes, and correspondence on intricate financial matters is essential.
* Strong understanding of relevant legislation, directives, policies, and procedures governing public sector finance is required.
* Excellent interpersonal skills enabling you to build enduring relationships with both internal teams and external agencies are crucial.
* Capacity to implement effective processes for budget management aligned with strategic objectives is important for success in this role.
* Experience liaising with government bodies such as treasury departments or audit offices is highly desirable for this position.
* A commitment to upholding ethical standards while making considered decisions based on broader organisational context is necessary.
* Practical experience in finance management or possession of tertiary qualifications in accounting would be advantageous but not mandatory.
