Correctional Officer Job Description
The Tasmania Prison Service is seeking applications from highly motivated individuals who are looking for a challenging career in the correctional field with a dynamic, diverse and progressive organization.
About the Role
Successful applicants will complete a 12-week training program at the Risdon site to develop the skills and abilities required to become professional and effective Correctional Officers. The training provides the opportunity to acquire a Certificate III in Correctional Practice (Custodial), a nationally recognised qualification.
Job Responsibilities
* Perform duties of a Correctional Officer, which includes psychological and workforce health/fitness assessments as well as criminal history background checks.
Required Skills and Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you must have:
* Physical fitness, medical suitability and psychological characteristics appropriate to the duties of Correctional Officer
* Pre-employment checks: Arson and fire setting; violent crimes and crimes against the person; sex-related offences; drug and alcohol related offences; crimes involving dishonesty; crimes involving deception; making false declarations; malicious damage and destruction to property; serious traffic offences; crimes against public order or relating to the Administration of Law and Justice; crimes against Executive or the Legislative Power; crimes involving conspiracy.
* Disciplinary action in previous employment
* Identification check
* Current unrestricted driver's licence
