About the Role
The Apprenticeship Program provides a strong foundation to build a hands‐on career in Newman. It is designed for residential applicants and combines structured training, dedicated mentorship, and clear pathways for long‐term growth within WAIO Operations. The role is based locally in Newman and includes working across day and night shifts on an 8:6 or 2:1 roster. No mining experience is required; a strong attitude, motivation, reliability, and willingness to learn are essential. Over four years you will gain practical, on‐the‐job experience and formal training that leads to a nationally recognised trade qualification.
Trades on Offer
* Heavy Diesel – CertIII Mobile Plant Technology – maintain and repair mobile plant equipment
* Auto Electrician – CertIII Automotive Electrical Technology – diagnose, maintain and repair electrical components in vehicles and equipment
* Communications Technician – CertificateIII in Electronics & Communications – keep operations connected and support digital systems
* Electrical – CertificateIII in Electrotechnology Electrician – keep sites powered and equipment running safely
* Mechanical Fitter – CertIII Engineering Mechanical Trade – maintain, repair and install fixed plant equipment
* Plumbing – CertIII Plumbing – install, maintain and repair water and drainage systems
* Refrigeration & Air Conditioning – CertificateIII in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning – maintain cooling systems that keep equipment operating safely
About You
* Someone ready to step into a stable, hands‐on career
* Curious about mining and open to trying something new
* Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander applicant (position open exclusively to these applicants)

Eligibility and Requirements
* Minimum pass in Year10 Mathematics and English
* Current Australian driver's licence (Learner or Provisional accepted to start)
